Description

This ivy-covered Palladian-style country villa in Somerset is an ideal location for an intimate celebration. Built by Thomas Fox in 1797, both the main house and stables are steeped in history. They sit within 4 acres of gardens bordering a shady stream, where a silent mill stands watch. Inside, the warm wallpapered dining room is fit for a banquet - after dinner the games room and dance hall will ring with mirth.

Your guests will explore the many nooks and crannies in the manor - the 10 bedrooms in the main house are furnished sumptuously with lovely bedding, family antiques, and a fresh design sense. If you have a larger party (up to 31), the converted stables can be rented as well, to add 5 bedrooms and its own country kitchen.

This family villa is located in the small town of Wellington, close to a range of amenities. If you're up for an adventure, Exmoor National Park lies an hour's drive away (look for the herds of beautiful wild ponies!) With the airport close by at Exeter (35 km), it won't be hard to entice your family and friends to this holiday villa and the gorgeous lands beyond.

#### Features
Ground floor
Entrance through the grand (40ft) Hall. Off the Hall is a fully equipped Kitchen together with a scullery and jam room. The drawing and dining rooms are where guests can unwind in comfort and style with a roaring log fire, amid many antiques and family portraits. The more energetic can retire to the Long Room for a game of table tennis or pool.
First floor
There are 10 bedrooms (and 6 shower/bathrooms) all reflecting fascinating, different aspects of the history of the house and family. They are comfortably furnished, with sumptuous beds. 3 bedrooms have en suite facilities, 3 attic rooms, 2 twins and 1 walk through room. The 11th bedroom is the ivy clad Old Laundry, a charming, very large bedroom suite with a gallery and its own bathroom. In total the house has 10/11 bedrooms & 7 bath/shower rooms.
The Stables
Sleeping up to 10 people in 5 bedrooms with two bathrooms. The Stables have been extended and modernised to provide contemporary accommodation alongside the main house. 2 bedrooms are on the ground floor with 1 shower room and the 3 further bedrooms are upstairs. The beautifully appointed kitchen is ideal for a morning brew, but then guests would join in the main house for all meals and entertainment.

#### Location
The options are virtually endless, but here are some of the more popular choices:
A massage is just the thing to soothe away stress! The masseurs come to the house for a minimum of 3 hours, for treatment in either hour or half hour increments.
Archery, laser clay and pistol shooting can be arranged in the grounds. This is ideal for guests short of time or those that don't fancy driving further afield.
If guests don't mind a scenic drive down to Exmoor, there is nothing more exhilarating than horse riding on the hills. This can be combined with fly fishing and clay shooting as all three are quite near each other. There is also the prospect of meeting up afterwards for a pub lunch to tempt everyone out of the house.
On the entertainment front, the casino night is very popular and is strictly for fun since the owners do not have a gaming licence. A murder mystery or a wide range of musicians, from a solo pianist to a ceilidh or from bluegrass to dinner jazz and anything in between can also be arranged.
Hire your own sports complex: The property has a private arrangement with a local public school to hire their facilities over weekends. If guests fancy a cricket pitch for some 20:20 fun with tea in the pavilion, fabulous tennis and squash courts or fencing in the salon with coach and Olympic champion Gyorgy Felletar, the sports hall is a perfect choise. The sports hall can be hired by the hour for 5-a-side football, badminton or basketball.
Cooking skills: Chefs can assist guests in a fun experience producing a meal. The Thai course is very popular.
Golf: The owners can direct guests to excellent parkland, championship and links courses all within 5-10 miles of the property.
Walking: A gentle stroll or a more energetic hike up a hillside are both options that usually have a pub along the way. There are maps and guided walks at the houses, and the owners can send the information to guests before they arrive.
Quantock Hills, the home and inspiration to the writers Wordsworth and Coleridge and also home for the oldest breed of wild pony is glorious for walking, especially down Dead Woman's Ditch.
The Blackdown Hills is an area of outstanding natural beauty and the West Country's best kept secret.
Exmoor, including Lorna Doone country, Tarr Steps. All are beautiful areas to explore. The owners can recommend an excellent natural river pool to swim in the summer at OS grid ref. 3286.
Surfing: The owners can direct guests to great spots or arrange excellent private tuition for a group including all equipment.
Branscombe Beach on the south coast near Lyme Regis is a romantic, wonderful, shingle beach. Early summer evening barbecues on the beach are also highly recommended.
Saunton Sands near Barnstaple, north Devon, is a two mile stretch of lovely, soft, sandy beach. Around the corner is the popular surfing beach Croyde Bay and Woolacombe Sand. Roads around this area can get busy in the peak summer months.
