Description

Meadowlands

Up a flagstone path, sunlight dancing off its ivied bricks, sits London Home 67. Now and then, the dappled shadow of birds will cross its lawns, a soft wind whisper among the treetops. Only this isn’t a cottage down a country lane. This is Wimbledon, a quick half hour from central London. Dotted about with trellises and trees, its garden couldn’t be bigger or lovelier, and inside you’ve a fabulous family home. Traditional English taste flowers everywhere you turn, from the mannerly sitting room to a sweetly rustic kitchen. Yes, with the park life and cute cafes of Wimbledon Village nearby, you’ll be singing like a lark.

Rural life

Since moving in twenty years ago, your hosts have given their home a spritely refurb – turning the kitchen and dining areas into one excellent living space. Their children may have flown the nest, but Inner Park Road keeps all the comfort and warmth of a family home.

Farmstead

Breathe deep the flowers and freshness in the front garden, before drifting into the graceful sitting room. You’ve period armchairs and plump sofas on which to sprawl for a spell, before padding on to the large and lovely dining room. Not one but two dining tables are to be found, as well as a squashy sofa, warming fireplace and kitchen tinted a tasty mint green. When the sun’s out, prepare a cooling drink, throw open the doors and take a deep draught in the back garden. With its flowerbeds, sprawling lawn and table and chairs, you’ll want to linger until the shadows lengthen.

Upstairs, you’ll find an immaculate bathroom and the bedrooms. The double is quaintly elegant, decked out in white and lined with books, while Arnie directs his stare from the wall of the king bedroom. You’ve another double, its walls coloured a fresh pink and furniture sweetly antique. The master is handsome and large, with its own dressing room and marbled ensuite. You’ve also the snuggest TV room imaginable.

Harvest moon

If you happen to outgrow that huge garden, both Wimbledon Park and the sprawling Wimbledon Common lie close at hand. Take a rural stroll to the Wimbledon Windmill, or look in on Southside House, a seventeenth century Dutch-Baroque mansion stuffed with artwork. And even if the championships aren’t on, the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum is well worth a mosey. The tube from Southfields to Green Park takes under half an hour.
