Description

===== Exterior =====

“It is not having beauty that attracts me. It attracts me to find her and honor her.

She attracts me to see her through the eyes of others. So I do it justice. So I am happy.

And my heart is full of love for my Marche. "

It was by following this thought that Enrico Biondi created this jewel, first as a private residence, now destined for hospitality.

La Rocca Luxury Apartment is the expression of the love for its Marche, from the sea to the mountains, from the noble palace of Fermo to a watchtower on the Sibillini mountains, passing through a tower of medieval fortifications where you can breathe a discreet elegance where the beauty of the time shines unchallenged, where every detail expresses the love for art and culture. Welcome.

La Rocca Luxury Apartment was built in 1080 AD. as a watchtower in defense of the Marca Fermana. Located in an enchanting setting between Mount Sibilla, the Gola dell’Infernaccio and the medieval village of Montefortino, it stands on a spur of rock from which it dominates the surrounding valley.

Today La Rocca is a jewel set in the center of the Sibillini National Park, designed for those in search of peace, relaxation and meditation. The park that branches off around the structure is enriched with artistic creations that refer to Land Art, inside there is a private amphitheater where you can enjoy unique sunsets.

Near Montefortino there are numerous architectural and naturalistic sites to discover, first of all the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell’Ambro, an ancient Marian place of worship among the most important in the Marche Region. Many paths that are lost among the gentle peaks of the Sibillini National Park start in places close to the Rocca. One of the treks that we highly recommend for its charm and beauty is that of the Gole dell’Infernaccio, the starting point of the path is about 3 km from the property.

The Gole dell'Infernaccio are natural gorges dug over hundreds of thousands of years by the River Tenna between Monte Priora and the Sibilla, a pleasant and accessible walk also for children allows in about an hour to get to the hermitage of San Leonardo.

You will be surrounded by landscapes of indescribable beauty, lands rich in history and charm, La Rocca Luxury Apartment will be one of those places that the mere thought will evoke a happy memory in you.

- Outdoor: At guests' disposal 2 hectares of park with numerous spaces equipped for relaxation and paths immersed in nature with direct access to the Sibillini National Park.

On the first floor there is a large panoramic terrace with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains equipped with tables and chairs where you can treat yourself to a few moments of relaxation reading a good book or simply enjoy the sunset while drinking one of the many local wines that the area offers.

- Attractions: THE SIBILLINI MOUNTAINS AREA

The Sibillini Mountains are a massif located between the Marche and Umbria, in the Umbrian-Marche Apennines along the central central Apennines. It is located between the provinces of Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Macerata, Perugia.

"... And what immense thoughts,

what sweet dreams the sight inspired me

of that distant sea, those blue mountains,

that I discover from here, and that to cross one day

I thought of myself, arcane worlds, arcane

happiness by pretending to live my life! "

(Giacomo Leopardi wrote about the Sibillini Mountains in The Memories)

Visiting the municipalities of the Monti Sibilllini Park represents a unique opportunity to fully relive the charm of the past and discover the treasures that man has been able to preserve over the centuries to adapt to a wild and often hostile natural environment. The travel experience thus becomes, also from a cultural point of view, truly vivifying and unforgettable for every visitor.

The Sibillini Mountains National Park includes the highest mountain group of the Umbrian-Marche Apennines and its highest peak, Monte Carrier, reaches 2,479 meters above sea level, while its many municipalities are distributed between Umbria and the Marches.

To be seen

Among the municipalities that deserve a visit is Visso, seat of the National Park. Legend has it that this Umbrian municipality of the Park, characterized by a cozy and picturesque historic center, was founded 907 years before Rome and that, from its recognition as a free municipality and up to the Napoleonic invasion, it was divided into five districts called "Guaite", also including Castelsantangelo and Ussita.

Not far away, to attract the visitor, an itinerary that can also be traveled by car, the Gorges of the Valnerina, carved by the impetuous Nera river, and the mountain massif of M. Bove, with a dolomitic aspect.

For the particularity of its location, the town of Arquata del Tronto should be mentioned, the only town in Europe whose territory is included within two National Parks: that of the Sibillini Mountains to the north and the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga to the south, formerly Abruzzo.

The heart of an important sector of the park is Norcia, home of the patron saint of Europe, St. Benedict, and famous for its splendid historic center.

In Preci, a place of spirituality, worth seeing is the Abbey of Sant'Eutizio, founded in 470 AD, where the Precian Surgical School was born.

To do

Trekking, widely practiced throughout the area, is facilitated by marked trails and guided tours that are organized by the Houses of the Park. Particularly interesting are some themed paths, such as that of the Saffron, so called because it retraces the ancient road of those who brought the ancient spice from Abruzzo.

Sport climbing is also very popular in the park, especially on the northern slopes of Mount Bove. Due to the morphological structure and the particular environmental conditions, linked to atmospheric currents, the park is the realm of hang gliding and paragliding.

Other sports, besides skiing during the winter season in the Forca Canapine area, are rafting and canyoning along rivers.

It is possible to discover, by mountain bike, many of the most evocative environments of the park, thanks to numerous marked trails specific to this discipline.

Not to be missed

It almost looks like a locus amoenus where the Sanctuary of Macereto stands, in the hills above Visso, about 1000 meters above sea level. It is a religious complex, near which the castle of the Counts of Fiastra once stood. It represents the greatest expression of Renaissance architecture of the 16th century in the Marche.

Going up along the Nera river towards the Marche hinterland, you are faced with a real spectacle: Lake Fiastra. Despite being an artificial lake, its waters are crystalline blue in every season of the year, reflecting the peaks of the surrounding mountains. From there you can reach the suggestive Acquasanta Valley with its splendid waterfalls and the Grotta dell’orso.

Among the numerous legends from which the Sibillini area is based (known since the Middle Ages throughout Europe as a kingdom of demons, necromancers and fairies), the most famous are those related to the "Illustrious prophetess" Sibyl, who lived in a cave located on the homonymous mountain, and that of Pilate according to which the dying body of the Roman procurator was dragged by some buffaloes into the waters of the "demoniac" lake, located in one of the highest valleys of Mount Vettore. The almost lunar landscape, which can be reached starting from Frontignano with a journey of over 4 hours, is absolutely not to be missed.

To taste

The Lentil of Castelluccio di Norcia with Protected Geographical Indication, is typical of the plains of Castelluccio, a hamlet of Norcia. It is excellent to be enjoyed stewed only with water, celery, garlic, salt and pepper.

LE MARCHE - ITALY IN ONE REGION

ITALIAN SECRET

Le Marche is one of Italy’s best-kept secrets. Sandwiched between the Adriatic and its better known neighbours Tuscany and Umbria, this quiet and sparsely-populated region has long slipped under the travel radar. Yet with a string of charming hilltop towns and a landscape ranging from snow-capped Apennine peaks to dreamy beaches and otherworldly caves, it’s the perfect place to experience Italy without the crowds. Outstanding with their geometrical shapes and imposing appearance, Italian castles are not only awe-inspiring but absolutely marvelous – a splendor that is best observed in person. Interestingly, no two castles seem alike and each has unique features that correlate with historical events, natural surroundings, and political changes over the centuries.

RICH HISTORY

Few countries in the world are suffused with such a strong sense of historical continuity as Italy. From the myths that surround the birth of the Etruscan civilization to the foundation of United Italy in the 19thC, past and present are inextricably linked in a seamless web that stretches back over three millennia. This short account provides a thread to guide you through the labyrinth of this complex story. You'll find more detailed local history in the individual town pages.

RESTAURANTS

Marche is centrally located on the eastern Italian coast, nestling between the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea. The region is characterised by a rugged, mountainous inland and a beach-lined coast, dotted with quaint seaside towns. These variations in the region’s geography are also reflected in its food; seafood is popular, along with rural delicacies such as wild funghi, game, nuts and herbs and the region’s treasured truffles. Coniglio in porchetta, rabbit stuffed with wild fennel is a revered regional speciality, and traditional porchetta made with suckling pig and stuffed into rolls is a popular street food.

Autumn in Le Marche

If you are not fond of hot days and you love the beautiful mild sunny days, when the sun gently caresses your skin and senses, inviting you to spend time in the open air, why don’t you take the chance of a holiday in Marche in Autumn?

THE SCENT OF THE GRAPE HARVEST

Especially in the first part of autumn, the scents of the grape harvest invade the Marche hills. With must they make the typical, soft donuts that you can find in many local bakeries, must biscuits, perfect to be served with “vino cotto” (literally “cooked wine”) and “sughetti” (a kind of polenta made of must, corn flour and walnuts). When the must is cooked for a long time, sapa is produced: it is a sweet and sticky ingredient perfect for seasoning polenta and making cavallucci (a typical local biscuit). In Montecassiano the festival of sughitti is held during the last week of September. The oldest Sagra dell’Uva (wine festival) in Italy is held in Cupramontana at the beginning of October: it’s a festival with food, music, dances and, of course, Sir Wine.

OLIVE HARVEST & OLIVE OIL

One of the most magical moments in Marche, and in Italy in general, happens at the end of October / beginning of November: this is the month of the olive harvest, when you will see many people working around the olive trees to pick the precious fruit. Do not hesitate: the new oil, with its intense green color, is immediately ready to be tasted and purchased. If you have friends who have a farmhouse in the countryside with olive grove, ask them to invite you for the harvest: it will be a beautiful moment to share with your friends and then you can bring the olives to the mill and attend to the production of your own olive oil.

THE FOLIAGE OF CANFAITO BEECH FOREST

If you want to make an experience of colours, then you can’t miss the Canfaito beech forest: every year you can enjoy the same and always different show of the beech leaves changing colours. You’ll feel like under a golden dome made of yellow, orange and red leaves. Just enjoy a relaxing walk under the beech trees and don’t forget to stop by Elcito, a tiny untouched village, where you can breathe an atmosphere of old times, when shepherds woke up at dawn, spent the whole day out with their animals, longing to go back home and find some warmth in front of the fireplace with their families.

MEDIOEVAL VILLAGES

Visiting the numerous Medieval villages spotted all around Marche may be quite a challenge under the August sun, but doing it in Autumn, when the air is still warm and sun lights up the stones that make up the town walls, has a totally different appeal. Stroll through the narrow streets of the Marchigiano towns, where a beautiful panorama awaits you at every corner. Difficult to recommend a village: just switch off your satellite navigator, follow a less traveled road and certainly you will find a quiet and nice village waiting to welcome you.

CHESTNUT FESTIVAL

The good and sweet smell of roasted chestnuts is one of the nicest in autumn. You can go yourself to look for chestunts and then cook them at your place or, if you are not sporty enough, there are many chestnut festivals in October, especially in the Sibillini area, where people roast chestunts along the roads and you can buy a cone. The most famous chestnut festivals in Marche are in Smerillo and Montemonaco. Smerillo is particularly famous also for being one of the balconies of Marche: thanks to its elevated position, you can admire wide open views, stretching from the Sibillini mountains to the sea, passing through the rolling hills and medieval villages.

TRUFFEL

Autumn also offers another delicious, sought-after and highly appreciated product: truffles. Two are the most important events in Marche dedicated to truffles: the National Fair of White Truffle in Acqualagna and Diamanti a Tavola in Amandola, dedicated to the precious white truffles of the Sibillini.

THE CONERO AREA IN PEACE

Ok the temperature is not suitable for a swim but the Conero without the crowds of summer allows you to make many experiences, from cycling to walking (we especially recommend two trips: the viewpoint up to Passo del Lupo, and that from the Belvedere) as well as visiting the villages of Sirolo and Numana.

Traveling in the Marche

AIRPORTS

The main transport hub of the Marche is the Adriatic port city of Ancona. International flights serve the Marche airport just northwest of the city, while ferries sail to and from destinations in Greece, Croatia and Albania.

PRIVATE CAR

You have to be a good driver in the Marche; the streets are narrow and often steep. Fly to Ancona and rent a car. For speed, take the A14, which connects the entire region along its 111 miles of coastline, from Pesaro in the north to Ascoli Piceno in the south. For pleasure, drive along the state roads through the splendid landscapes of the Marche.

TRAINS

Once in the region, trains run along the coast and buses serve most of the inland towns and villages. Realistically, though, you'll want your wheels to explore the region's verdant hinterland. The car rental service is available at the Marche airport and Ancona railway station. Traveling in the Marche
