#### Location
Situated in the Northern Sporades, between Skiathos & Alonissos, Skopelos is known to Greeks as the island of green and blue because of the forests that cover much of the island, coming right down to the water's edge. Getting to the island is usually by flights to Skiathos direct from the UK in the summer months or by connections through Athens or Thessalonika. Once on the island travel is easy as there is an excellent bus service, car hire, motorbikes, pushbikes, taxis and of course, boats. Skopelos is a very popular destination for holidaymakers from mainland Greece who come to see the unspoiled nature of the island and its two main towns, Skopelos town in the south, and Glossa in the north.

Skopelos town is full of narrow streets with traditional Greek architecture and pretty churches and chapels. Being a waterfront town means that Skopelos is traffic-free, and very lively in the summer evenings, full of families taking a stroll, lovely family-run restaurants and holidaymakers exploring the town.

The beaches dotted all around the island are also a huge attraction to visitors from all countries. Each one is beautiful in its own way; some are busy with families and friends; others are smaller and quieter. Whichever type of beach you go to, the ocean will not disappoint. The calm crystal-clear water is perfect for a refreshing dip, snorkelling with the rich marine life, or even going on a diving excursion.

We recommend that guests hire a car to explore the island, as there are many remote and off-the-beaten-track roads and villages. The lush nature and landscape of the island are truly beautiful, with many points to stop and take in the stunning views. The most natural and quiet beaches tend to be located on the Northern side of the island, so are only reachable by car.

Another fantastic way of seeing the island is by boat; rent a small motorboat at any of the little beaches or marinas and explore the beautiful coastline. Many of the best beaches are only accessible from the sea, which makes them much more private and secluded!
