The capital, Funchal, is renowned as much for its food as it is for its clean, crime-free streets. Besides being one of the largest cities in Portugal, is a port city with an important history. Did you know that Christopher Columbus was one of the first inhabitants of this city? Follow the hint of the explorers of the past and visit Funchal. Fifteenth-century Cathedral of Funchal is a remarkable piece of history you must visit. The Botanical Garden has an incomparable flora and fauna. Indulge yourself with cacti, herbs and flowers of the region. Here it is also possible to spend a relaxing afternoon with the children and the family.
This garden has a cable car called Funchal Cable Car. Enjoy the panoramic view of the garden from above!
The old town of Funchal is a lively place with lively nightlife. It is a neighbourhood full of life, perfect for a fun ride at any time of the day.
Mount Toboggan is an experience that you cannot miss, descending from toboggan in Monte to Funchal. It is a wicker chair that slides smoothly, and the descent lasts only ten minutes with speeds up to 48 km / hour.
Also worldwide famous is the new years´ eve fireworks that put Madeira on the map with New York and Sidney, having won for the first time in 2006. It´s considered to be the biggest event on the island, attracting thousands of tourist every year.
Admire the sunset from the coast of Madeira on a catamaran cruise from Funchal. Marvel at the changing colours of the sea with the reflection of its waters.
