In 2009, the resort of Costa Rei was awarded the "Travel blogger award" by the prestigious publishing house of travel guides "Lonely Planet" which included it among the ten most beautiful beaches in the world. Nestled on the small valley at the foot of Monte Nai, Costa Rei overlooks the south-eastern coast of Sardinia and precisely in the Sarrabus, an area of incredible beauty where the Mediterranean scrub frames the expanses of white sand and crystalline and turquoise seabed . The beach, certainly the most beautiful on the South-East Eastern Coast of Sardinia, is a point of reference for those who love the sea, the sun, long walks on the beach, a true oasis of tranquility; is the favorite tourist destination for holidays in Costa Rei among all those who love diving and all water sports in general.
The long beach slopes gently towards the sea and the seabed makes bathing quiet, safe and easy for small children and the most inexperienced people to swim.
The whole area remains framed and protected from the winds by the chain of the Monti Dei Sette Fratelli, a true uncontaminated environmental heritage with ever green mountains and wonderful forests rich in spontaneous flora (Mediterranean scrub) and a variety of local fauna without equal.
South of the Capo Ferrato promontory, it develops between long stretches of white beach and small closed coves of granite rocks, overlooking a cobalt sea capable of taking on all shades of blue.
Continuing from the promontory you reach Porto Pirastu, a small inlet sheltered from the winds and therefore already used in antiquity as an easy landing place.
To the south we meet the long beach of Piscina Rei which also includes the beach called Sa Iba de Ziu Franciscu, La Salina di Piscina Rei and the pond of Piscina Rei; then there is the urban area which is divided into areas, from north to south, which include:
Rei Marina, Rei Plaia and Turagri, where the commercial squares called piazza Rei Marina and market square Rei Marina are located
Adjacent to the Turagri area is the church dedicated to Our Lady of Bonaria di Costa Rei, the tourist information office of the Municipality of Muravera, and the Carabinieri barracks as well as other services available to guests.
The other areas that meet are Sa Perda Niedda and Monte Nai with the relative beaches located in the middle of Costa Rei.
Continuing you arrive at Sa Murta where the other two commercial squares of Costa Rei called Piazza Italia and the nearby Piazza Sardegna are located (the beautiful beach is in front of the squares)
To follow still the beaches of Asfodeli up to that of the Ginestre area where the tourist infrastructures end.
Continuing along the coast, after a few hundred meters of white sand, you reach the beach of Santa Giusta also famous for the Scoglio di Peppino, a low and wide granite rock, visited all year round by tourists; from here it is possible to observe the island of Serpentara with the nearby island of Cavoli; extreme appendix of the South East coast of Sardinia. Both are part of the protected marine area of Capo Carbonara, created to protect the seabed of greatest environmental interest of the entire coast.
