Description

Surrounded by a dreamy landscape of meadows and lush woodlands, this rural retreat will give you a true taste of life in an Italian hamlet. Pereto is, in fact, two stone villas, set on a working lavender estate in the Umbrian hills, close to the Tuscan border, with views across the Tiber valley to the mountains beyond. With such a unique setting, it’s unlikely you’ll want to leave, unless it’s to buy a freshly baked loaf or try one of the restaurants in the nearby village of Montone, a short drive away.

Sleeping 10 across both properties, large groups of families or friends can come together and also spend time apart in this glorious setting. The double villa offers the flexibility of a house sleeping six and a smaller, ivy-covered cottage sleeping four. Eye-catching, rustic interiors reflect the Tuscan scenery, with walls painted in bold shades of burnt orange, sunset-pink and sylvan green, plus bare stone walls and old wooden beams. Everyone will love the private pool, just below the villas, and teenagers can get their kicks setting up a den in the pretty stone building near the poolside, which has its own fridge and stereo. While sun-lovers soak up the rays by the pool, others can claim the shade of the terrace with its inviting hammocks as their spot to relax in with a cool drink.

Our Thoughts

If you have ever suffered sleepless nights, this rural villa on a lavender estate will sort out such nocturnal woes, thanks to the remote, tranquil setting combined with the effects of the products made from the soporific herb stocked in the owner’s on-site shop. Each house has its own charm; the smaller cottage has its own terrace with table and chairs, shaded by trees, while the larger has a covered terrace furnished with hammocks and a table and chairs, leading to a large expanse of lawn.

Notes

Five bedrooms, all double. Three bathrooms, one en-suite. The owners live in the third building on the estate, but do not share the pool with the other villas, which are only rented to joint bookings. The owners have seven cats and two dogs, which have access to the estate.

Fire Place: open

Pool

The salt-cleansed pool is reached down a few steps from the properties and surrounded by a paved terrace on three sides, furnished with sunbeds. There is also a furnished covered terrace with table and chairs. There are Roman steps to enter the water.

Pool size: 5m x 12m, 1.3-2.3m deep. Open May to September, weather permitting
