This lovely, red-sandstone, detached holiday property was the former school in the little hamlet of Memus, at the foot of the Angus Glens, almost midway between Forfar and Kirriemuir. It is very well-furnished and comfortable; it features a gallery above the lounge with further seating and an air hockey table, making good use of the original high ceiling from its school days. The house is only 300 yards from the local pub/restaurant, with a fine selection of food and drink on offer. It is just five miles from Kirriemuir, the gateway to the magnificent Glens, where there is a good selection of shops and cafes. Pay a visit to the childhood home of JM Barrie the creator of Peter Pan, which has been carefully restored as a museum. Other visitor attractions include a variety of craft workshops and one of Scotland’s three cameras obscura, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The area is rich in history, an ideal base for touring, hillwalking, bird watching, horse riding, visiting castles, National Trust properties and Pictish stones. To the east are the very good beaches on the Angus coastline, and there are several very good golf courses within an hours drive, not least St Andrews and Carnoustie. Forfar is just eight miles away, with a further selection of shops and amenities including a swimming pool and a nature reserve.
