Description

Gardener's Cottage is grade II listed and was built in the early 19th century. It is situated within Chatsworth Park and has an elevated position opposite the historic village of Edensor. It is believed to be the one house that remained when the 6th Duke completed his landscaping and park improvements started by Lancelot Brown in the 1760s. The reason why Gardener's Cottage, then named Park House, was spared remains a mystery. Some say it was left so as not to disturb an elderly occupant, others say that as it isn't visible from Chatsworth House its removal wasn't required under the landscaping plans.
The cottage was refurbished by The Duchess of Devonshire in Spring 2014 and now provides unique and luxurious self-catering holiday accommodation for six people. It was renamed at the time, taking its name from the occupation of the previous occupier.
