Description

Tucked away in the beautiful South Hams village of Bantham, Cracklefield Cottage is a gorgeous period property dating back well over 200 years.
The name ‘Cracklefield’ comes from ancient deeds. Written upon the deeds were the words ‘Field of Crackle’ hence the name.
Originally the Cottage was part of the adjoining Bantham House, and has a rather interesting history. According to local history experts, it was one of many storage places for smuggled goods in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. More often than not the entire village of Bantham would be in on the secret provided they got a share of the bounty! A wander around the village with its quaint harbour will most definitely fire your imagination.

A word from our owner
*************************
Cracklefield Cottage has been in the owner's family for generations. The family children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have grown up spending endless summers here. Everything moves more slowly and life revolves around the tides. It’s peaceful and the perfect place to unwind. The light and the sunsets are unrivalled and every season in Bantham is spectacular in its own right.

Here you can find delicious freshly cooked meals, an ever changing selection of creative daily specials using some of the freshest fish, meat and game and the finest local produce Devon has to offer.
