Description

The cypress-lined approach to this property near Montepulciano in Siena hints at its elegant grounds populated by willow trees and colourful potted plants, while the traditional stone exterior belies the contemporary interior. Sleeping eight in four bedrooms, Podere Osteria 8 is a light, well-presented, ground and top-floor apartment in which a large family or group of friends with children can unwind and enjoy both the excellent facilities and the views. Pale floors and white fabrics keep things cool inside, while bedrooms and bathrooms are more colourful with acid pinks and greens. Chandeliers and four-poster beds add a touch of grandeur against the odd rustic touch in a redbrick arch here or a terracotta urn there.

The large garden has multiple places for relaxing or passing enjoyable moments with your children, who’ll make a bee-line for the swings at the front of the property, while adults can join in on the swing chair nearby. Here also you’ll find two sets of table and chairs, one under a picturesque plant-covered pergola, as well as individual chairs in which you can just watch the world go by. With such generous, well-designed grounds complete with a private pool overlooking the vineyard-covered Val d'Orcia hills, there’s little need to step away – although the property has easy access to the historic southern Tuscan gems of Montalcino and Pienza.

Our Thoughts

The well-maintained gardens offer plentiful spaces in which guests can soak up the sun or enjoy the shade under one of the many trees. There’s even a table and chairs on the terrace at the top of the stairs to the entrance, creating another spot from which to look out across the unspoilt rural landscape to the restored Spedaletto castle, originally built as a hotel for travellers in the 12th century. Parents seeking peace from noisy teens (or teens seeking a space to be noisy…) may bag the ground-floor bedroom, which has its own terrace furnished with a wicker table and chairs.

Notes

Four bedrooms. Four bathrooms, all en-suite. Podere Osteria is a semi-detached villa, next door is occupied by local residents. The garden and pool area are private to the villa. Aside from the bedroom, the ground floor is not used.

Parking - plenty of space available on site

Fire Place: open

Pool

The pool has a well-proportioned paved area decked with sun beds, deck chairs, a table and chairs and umbrellas and is accessed by Roman steps in one corner. A large hedge running behind it provides privacy and shelter. Pool size: 12m x 6m, 1m-1.2m deep. Open April to September, weather permitting.
