Description

Ceres is ideally placed just 7 miles from St Andrews in the historic Kingdom of Fife and provides an ideal base to explore and enjoy the best of what the Kingdom has to offer. Located in the heart of the village, Carters Cottage is a 200 year old fully refurbished stone built cottage which externally retains the charm of a traditional weaver’s cottage, whilst internally providing all the facilities and comfort of modern living. The entrance to Carters Cottage is on a quiet private road (Back Latch) which serves only a handful of houses. The cottage has its own parking place immediately next to the garden entrance.
The accommodation is split over two floors. The ground floor is comprised of a substantial living room which has been sympathetically restored to expose the original stone gable end wall and fireplace. The fireplace now houses a wood burning stove which provides a cosy atmosphere on those cooler winter evenings. During the day the cottage is light and airy, as is typical of a traditional weaver’s cottage. By prior arrangement the ground floor bedroom can provide accommodation for either two single people or the beds can be linked to provide one super king sized bed for couples. The bedroom also has an adjacent bath and shower room. The spacious kitchen has a dining area for four people and is fully equipped enabling visitors to prepare everything from simple snacks to elaborate supers. On the upper mezzanine level the open plan second bedroom with ensuite shower room looks out over the vaulted ceiling of the two story living room below. The room offers a double bed, however, an additional child bed or cot can be provided on request. The upper level has views of the court yard and walled garden beyond. The cottage is equipped with a 4K Ultra HD television and has 24 hour fast internet access. Externally there is space to store equipment such as golf clubs, bicycles, canoes, surf boards etc. There is a flagstone patio with a table and garden chairs next to the cottage door and access to a larger seating area in the secluded walled garden; which is shared with the main house. Depending on the season the garden provides apples, rhubarb, raspberries, gooseberries, black and red currents which guests are welcome to pick.
Situated at the north of the Kingdom of Fife, this region has much to offer from historic working harbours and enchanting coastal villages, ancient castles and abbeys, to a royal palace. There is also a wealth of fabulous local food and drink that can be sampled at farmers markets, shops and eateries, not to mention the many famous distilleries that offer whisky or gin tours.
Out and about amid rolling hills, green forests and sandy beaches Fife offers hundreds of miles of cycle paths, footpaths and costal walks. From the door of Carters Cottage you can walk through the fields and woods to the Hill of Tarvit Mansion House and garden, climb the hill to enjoy the fantastic views over the surrounding countryside, then call in at Hatters for afternoon tea at the beautiful National Trust owned Edwardian Mansion House. In addition, Barbarafield Riding School is a short walk away or minutes by car which offers horse riding, hacking and lessons with qualified instructors. A selection of bicycles & cycle helmets are available to use when visiting Carters cottage, but its best to check availability in advance.
Carters Cottage is ideally situated to provide easy access to some of the most varied golf courses in Scotland from the famous Links courses to courses at charming inland venues. The locations may be set overlooking golden sandy beaches, within breath taking mountain scenery or heathland courses set amongst pine trees, silver birch and heather. Many courses including the old course at St Andrews are open to the public, but booking in advance is recommended.
Coastline cruises are available and boat trips in the summer from Anstruther to the Isle of May, a fascinating island that was once used by monks, Vikings and smugglers, but today houses one of Scotland’s oldest lighthouses and is home to large colonies of puffins and seals.
