Description

What a find! Family-friendly, dog-friendly, and well set-up for couples... Nutshell Cottage's central Lymington location means that the buzzy High Street is just a mere saunter from your sofa; with the stunning Sea Wall coastal path also just a wander away.

The cottage is bijou, but the clever use of space & mirrors inside means that you will be perfectly comfortable, and its Scandi-esque interior provides a real sanctuary of style!

Welcoming up to six guests + 2 x babies; there are 3 x bedrooms (2 are a good size, with 1 small twin), 2 x bathrooms + a garden at the back to enjoy coffee, fresh air & midday sunbathing.

Featured in The Times' ‘Top 10 places to live in the UK', Lymington really does have it all, and Nutshell Cottage is in prime position to showcase the old Georgian market town's array of independent shops, bars & restaurants. Potter a little further down the High Street to discover the picturesque cobbled streets of the Old Town Quay; once a network for smugglers, it's now a super (and very safe!) spot to sip something delicious & admire the bobbing boats.I

Wander through the town's back lanes to discover the Sea Wall's breathtaking coastal path (or keep going from the Quay... if your basket isn't too full of boutique finds!). This particular walk is a showstopper; with a raised coastal path that follows the old salt marshes & sea defence barriers to offer views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. Dog walks will be a joy. With miles of coastline to explore (Milford's a must see- however you get there!), don't forget to feature in a good coffee or brunch stop... there are several cafes that are well worth a visit for a refuel!

For shopping, M&S and Waitrose are both a 3 minute walk away- with a great bakery (fab for breakkie croissants) & a COOK store (for hearty, homemade suppers) also both a stones throw away.

Inside
Showcasing a 'nod' to Nordic style, downstairs is home to a cosy open-plan, dining-sitting room area. With ample room for 6 at the table, Nutshell Cottage's smart little kitchen has all you need to whip up breakfast, lunch or supper. The simple & effective layout is perfectly set-up for holidaying; so that everyone can chat and mix by-day, or retreat to their gorgeous bedroom by-night.

The colours are similar in the whole house; all are easy on the eye and nothing jars. Oatmeal, basketry, linen, hessian, cream floorboards, vintage tiles, silver metallics... and acres of mirrors to flood the light in every room.

The owner clearly loves the bones of this cottage, and has kept them integral to the finished style here. Throughout the house there is plenty of exposed original brick work, various repurposed Victorian radioators, or really swanky modern ones. We love the mix of old & new here, it flows smoothly through & the production is sleek, so that you can relax in style.

The bedroom on the second floor has the original chimney brickwork exposed, and the caulbing (tiered brickwork) is a gorgeous feature. With its low-set (to the floor) super king bed, and large wall mirror, this calm space is perfect for sinking into after a busy day exploring. Talking of old & new- we love the two original balsa hat boxes, and their stirrup leather handles, that form the the bedside tables here!

With great storage, the twin room itself is small, and the beds are very close together- making it better suited for children or a single guest. The pictures on our website show the room clearly - so please do have a close look to see if its right for you.

The master bedroom at the front of the cottage has a lovely super king bed to recharge &, as the owner is a lighting genius, you'll bathe in the calm a subtle but relaxing hue. The small (but perfectly formed!) en-suite includes a bath with shower above, and we particularly love the little corner shelf finishes + vintage floor tiles in this section!

We were really impressed with the two bathrooms in this house. Not just the creativity of utilising the space in this house, but the lighting and feel of them in general.

Do check out the 3D Virtual Tour of Nutshell Cottage, as it will allow you to get a reel feel for the place before you stay. Enjoy!

Outside
There is a little garden to the rear of the house. It's not produced like the house itself, offering more of a rustic feel... but it is private, catches the sun at midday & has enough room to air the dog!

Hometruths
The twin room is small, and the beds are placed very close together. We recommend this is used as a bedroom for little ones, or single occupancy- but the pictures (and tour) on our website show the room clearly so you can decide if it's suitable.

The garden here is small and to the rear of the cottage. As the property is terraced, please keep the noise to the a minimum for the neighbours.

There are two car permits (and second set of keys) on the dining room table. The car park is accessed by coming out of the front door, turn right and then immediately left. It is St Thomas car park. It is a two minute walk. Make sure you put the car in a long stay slot not a short stay slot and move it and change the clock time every 20 hours. If you can find a slot outside the cottage (usually can - or can pretty quickly) it is free parking for an hour and good for unloading. There is a road around the corner where it is free parking if you have more than two cars or if you do not want to move the car after 20 hours in the car park. The road is Old Farm Walk. Come out of the house, turn right and first right down Belmore Road. The road is first on your left.

Please note both fireplaces are decorative only and not for use.

Accessibility
There is a small step into the house from the street. If you are visiting with less mobile people, then please do read our (tried & tested!) blog for excursion ideas- 'Holidaying with less mobile folk? Here's where to go, what to do!'
