About Dunsley Cottage
Built in 1871, Dunsley is the owners' much-loved holiday home sitting in the picturesque North York Moors village of Staithes. Sleeping two, Dunsley is just perfect for couples looking to escape away by the sea and is an attractive fisherman's cottage that retains much original charm, enhanced by antique furniture, a welcoming classic decor and unique pieces of artwork.
A popular holiday destination at any time of the year, Staithes is a true gem on Yorkshire's stunning coastline. It's narrow little streets are lined with quaint little cottages, shops and traditional inns, winding their way down to the pretty, well-photographed harbour. Famed for being the home of Captain Cook, the town has a rich smuggling and fishing history and today is popular with walkers, artists, photographers and holiday makers seeking peace and sea air.
With a patio courtyard at the front for sitting out and a lovely open fire for cosy winter breaks, Dunsley has wide appeal at any time of the year. A cosy snug for relaxing and playing games, dining table in front of the fire, wooden floors, comfortable bed and stylish shower room ensure guests are comfortable whether staying for a few nights or longer holiday.
Surrounded by the rugged beauty of the North York Moors, the area is a superb playground for a host of outdoor activities. Paddle your way around the beautiful coastline by kayak, take a fishing trip with a local fisherman, lace up your walking boots and explore the coastal path and Cleveland Way which runs through the village or simply relax on the sandy beach. You can walk to Runswick Bay for lunch then catch the coastal bus back afterwards, go on a guided fossil hunting tour from the village or from Whitby or hire a surf board and enjoy the thrill of riding the waves (tuition is available in Sandsend).
When you feel like a change of scenery and can tear yourself away from the beauty of Staithes, Robin Hood's Bay, the seaside town of Scarborough, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Whitby with its majestic abbey and 'Heartbeat country' are all easily accessible.
Dunsley perfectly blends an eclectic mix of modern conveniences with antique furniture and pieces of art to create a simply charming atmosphere throughout. The cottage sits on a quiet pedestrian street (Chapel Yard) and has a private courtyard at the front with bistro table and chairs, allowing guests to sit out with a glass of wine or morning coffee soaking up the peace, tranquillity and sea air.
