The Old Laundry Cottage is an enchanting, Grade II listed, late Georgian cottage forming part of a small terrace of character cottages located on a no through road, within the conservation area just off the historic High Street. This atmospheric property is furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques and vintage furniture, is well-equipped and tastefully presented. The cottage provides an ideal location for a romantic short break or a longer stay and benefits from a small enclosed, private rear courtyard with table and chairs for those quiet evenings. The historic Cinque Ports town of Hythe boasts a bustling and thriving high street with an array of independent shops, cafés, restaurants, art galleries and studios, all literally a stone’s throw from the cottage. There is also a supermarket nearby.
The Old Laundry Cottage is just a few yards from The Royal Military Canal with its pleasant canalside walks, and on sunny days, rowing boats may be hired so you can enjoy a different view of this pretty seaside town. For the less energetic, there are leisurely trips available along the canal on an electric boat. A short ten-minute walk from the cottage, through beautifully tended gardens, takes you to the shingle beaches of Hythe Bay, where there is swimming for most of the year, a seafood restaurant with views across the English Channel to France, in addition to the golf links at The Imperial Hotel (daily and weekly membership available).
There are sandy beaches at Dymchurch and slightly further afield at Camber. Hythe is also home to the world famous small gauge Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway which offers trips through Romney Marsh in its unique small scale carriages, pulled by steam engines through The Marsh to Dungeness, which is a World Heritage Site. Its eerily bleak and hauntingly beautiful landscape attracts artists from around the world and an array of sea birds (both permanent and migratory) makes it a bird watchers paradise. The cathedral city of Canterbury is about half an hour away by car, the Channel Tunnel terminal at Folkestone (for day trips to France) is about a ten-minute drive away and for those interested in wildlife, the pioneering Port Lympne Nature Reserve is also about a ten-minute drive from the property. Beach ¼ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 20 yards.
