Head back to your stylish living room and slide open the glass doors to reveal your covered dining terrace complete with table, chairs and tiled floor, which you can follow all the way to your private pool. It's just five hundred metres to the white sands of Praia del Rey, where Atlantic waves can be ridden by all levels of surfer but also attract competitors from around the world. If you're lucky, you'll catch a competition at Nazare or Peniche.

You can tee-off at the eighteen-hole championship golf course or book a massage at the spa, hire bikes or play tennis, all just a short walk from Villa Fatima.

The Silver Coast is known for being cooler and fresher than The Algarve, thanks to the sea breeze blowing in off the ocean. Popular beaches include Santa Cruz, Baleal and Nazare; all sharing Praia del Rey's impossibly blue sea and glorious white sand.

During your stay, you have a wonderful choice of day trips within easy reach of Villa Fatima. As well as a mecca for world-class surfers, Peniche is a hotspot for tourists wanting to visit the historic relics left behind since its time as a royal fortress and fishing port, the latter still active today. Be sure to sample the freshly caught seafood in a local restaurant at lunchtime.

Obidos, a small but charming town, is just eleven kilometres inland from Villa Fatima. A morning's sightseeing can include a walk around the town walls, a visit to the twelfth century castle and trip to see the beautifully tiled Porta da Vila chapel.

Also inland, Caldas da Rainha has been visited by tourists for hundreds of years, attracted by its natural springs and restorative hydrotherapy spa. A pretty garden and lake now occupy the site of what used to be a thermal hospital. Take in the Museu de Ceramica to learn more about Caldas da Rainha's ceramics heritage before heading back to Villa Fatima.
