Description

Built around 1780 the perfect cosy country hide away for 2.
Situated in a quiet village 3 miles from the Lake district National park, less than 5 miles from the Georgian gem town of Cockermouth and 6 miles from the Solway coast the variety of scenery and activities are endless. It's our pleasure to share our lovingly modernised cottage which blends original features such as Oak beamed vaulted roof and stone fire place with everyday modern comforts eg. Wifi, fitted kitchen and central heating. In addition to the double bedroom upstairs there is a bed seatee suitable for 1 adult or 2 children in the down stairs lounge.
With country walks and cycling start outside your door the cottage is also perfectly located between the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the fells and lakes of the Lake District National Park and the unspoilt Solway coast which is desiganted as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
This quiet village location offers a change from the busy tourist hotspots of Keswick and Ambleside whilst still having the beauty of the surrounding local area with country walks starting from outside your front door . IN the next village there is a dog friendly pub which serves serving excellent food and the town of Cockermouth is only 4 miles away offers a full range of shops and restuarants. For history lovers the neighbouring village of Eaglesfield can claim to be the birth place of John Dalton proposer of the modern Atomic theory and Fletcher Christian of Mutiny on the Bounty fame.
If you are here to see the Lakes themselves Loweswater, Buttermere, Crummock water, Ennerdale water, Bassenthwaite and Derwent water are all within a 20 minute drive. Further afield the historic city of Carlisle ,Gretna Green, the Southern Lake District and the UNESCO World heritage site of Hadrians wall can be reached in around 1 hour by car.
The cottage is only a 5 minute drive from the main A66 East/West trunk road. The nearest railway station is Workington 5 miles away.
There is no public transport to the village however the nearest bus stop to Workington, Cockermouth or Keswick is about one mile away so own transport is advisable.
