See and Do

The Tamar River area is in the heart of Tasmania. From food & wine to nature & heritage and from adventure sports & wildlife to art & culture, there is something for everybody.

Food & Wine: The Villa is situated in the heart of wine country, it is a great start point for the Tamar Valley Wine Route, with over 20 cellar doors to visit. The route is also known for showcasing fresh Tasmanian produce with many wineries providing platters/lunch and/or dinner.

Nature & Heritage: a 5 minute drive down the hill takes you to Tamar Island Wetlands and Conservation Area, with an interpretation centre where visitors are informed about
the value of wetlands. Launceston Cataract Gorge Reserve is a must visit, either to dip in the pool, take the chairlift ride or relax and have a coffee in the park cafe.
Launceston has multiple gardens and museums and a 20 minute drive north from The Villa takes you to Beaconsfield Mine and Heritage Centre where in 2006 two miners made world news being trapped underground for 2 weeks before being rescued.

Adventure sports & wildlife: From trout fishing capitol of the world in the Great Lakes or walking the Overland Track from Cradle Mountain to Lake St. Claire. We are only a small drive away from what some people still call a last frontier country.
Tasmania Zoo, 10 minutes drive from The Villa, is where you go and see (and meet) the Tassie Devil. Family owned and operated the Zoo is set in a rustic bush scene has it's own Tassie Devil breeding program and staff who conduct information tours daily.

Arts & Culture: The QV museum located in Launceston also houses the art gallery and planetarium. Theater North produces multiple local productions per year and the Launceston Country Club Casino often hosts local and international artists.

A full weekly update information folder/guide, with discount vouchers is available in The Villa.
