Description

Doing it for the kids

This four bedroom, two bathroom home is a fun family paradise, with just the right balance of adult sophistication and childlike whimsy. With high ceilings and large rooms, it’s easy to spend time together without treading on each other's toes and relax far from the crowds. Wander down the affluent Northcote Road, where Cath Kidston boutiques rub shoulders with traditional toy shops and sticky-finger inducing bakeries, then pick up some grub at the Venn Street food market. If the weather’s clement, dine out in Rozel Road’s garden, where an alfresco three piece suite will seat all the family.

Young at heart

Your hosts are a life-loving couple who work in advertising, and their two young children. He’s half French, so it won’t surprise you to see fine Breton linens dressing the windows and ornaments from brocantes peppering the home. When they’re not visiting their continental family, they enjoy simply hanging out in their gorgeous Victorian terrace together.

Child’s play

As soon as the key turns in the lock, the kids will be desperate to get first dibs on the bedrooms and play trampolines. But head inside, at the very top of the house, check out the double loft room, with its crisp, white colour scheme and double doors which look out over London. Head down to find the perfectly charming children's bedroom, and arrange the teddies, or play at the dolls house. When hunger strikes, head en masse to the massive eat-in kitchen, where double folding doors to the garden mean you can keep an eye on the kids while you cook. A no-expense spared renovation has given the space an unmistakably luxurious atmosphere. Eat at the eight seater dining table then sprawl on the sofas as you watch a film in the grand Victorian drawing room. When the house is quiet as a mouse, relax on the elegant master bedroom’s vintage chesterfield, or recline on the superkingsized bed.

Kids on the block

Take the tiny ones to baby yoga, story time at the local library, or the paddling pool and playground on historical Clapham Common. A skate park will keep older children busy for hours. If you’re after more adult pursuits, sample one of Clapham’s upscale restaurants or make the 17 minute tube ride into central London.
