Built circa. 1822 and retaining all its old features and character, this spacious and charming Listed Grade B cottage forms the gate lodge to Hensol Estate in a truly charming and peaceful location.The pretty south facing cottage opens into an attractive hallway which leads to the dining room and sitting room with a curved staircase to first floor. Both the dining and the sitting rooms have attractive outlooks on to the front lawn and policy woodlands of the Estate. At the rear of the cottage the large kitchen and breakfast room looks onto a pretty rear garden which is private and includes a paved patio making an ideal place to sit on quiet summer evenings enjoying the sunshine and local wildlife which includes Red Squirrels, Deer and even the chance to see a Red Kite. On the estate we have two RSPB Bird Hides open to the public.
Water sports are available on the Estate with free wild swimming and fishing, in addition the owners are able to provide kayaking/paddle boarding with an extra fee and can provide you with kayaks, paddle boards and qualified instructors if required."
Within easy reach of the Solway coast with its beaches and fine headlands. Free coarse fishing on River Dee and on Woodhall Loch. Fishing also available, by permit, on Loch Ken where water sports and other activities are available at the Galloway Activity Centre, including Boat, Canoe & Windsurfer instruction and hire and other activities with Water Ski instruction available at Loch Ken Water Ski School.
The local towns of Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright are close by and the area boasts numerous sites of Historic or other interest such as Threave Castle together with National Trust for Scotland property at Threave and Broughton House & Garden in Kirkcudbright. Other sites of interest can be found at Cairn Holy standing stones, Cardoness, Carsluith Castles and Dumfries House within easy driving distance.
