Mangoes has had recent refurbishments and is now a two bedroom, two bathroom house with one of the bathrooms en-suite to the master bedroom..
This lovely detached villa, in lush tropical gardens is available for parties up to 5 in number. Couples are particularly welcome - we find it glorious to have this space for the two of us!
It goes without saying that the whole house and grounds are exclusively for your party; only the entrance gate is shared.
Mangoes could not be better located; it’s just across the road from a sandy beach and the pool.
Sunset Crest, where Mangoes is situated is a lovely residential area right on the 'Platinum Coast' of Barbados and near the two historic streets of Holetown. Most of the houses are quite large, detached properties (owned by respectable working people) with beautiful, tropical gardens which all add to the pleasant atmosphere of the area.
The beach and the pool are situated just across the road. The pool is privately owned by Sunset Crest property owners and is served by the Beach House which provides restaurant, bar and facilities. Entry to the pool is free for local residents and renters and, as many locals are working people with lives to attend to and not much time to go swimming, this leaves it fairly under-used.
Back to Mangoes ……
The house is large with three areas for dining; formally in our 'al fresco' dining room, quietly in the gazebo tucked away in the rear garden (which I call the secret garden) or on the big veranda; probably the most popular and most used area of the house.
There are five bed spaces in two generous bedrooms; the master is a twin/super-king (with the safe in the wardrobe) - now en suite, the second has three single beds, or a large double and a single if preferred with a private bathroom a few steps along the corridor.
All the bedrooms have ample wardrobe space, dressing table and seat, hairdryer, full length mirror, bedside table and lamps. All are equipped with ceiling fans and air conditioning at no extra cost.
The fresh, modern bathrooms, all have generously sized showers, washbasin and loo.
The kitchen has been recently refitted with plenty of fresh, new cupboards with white doors and granite work surfaces. It is well equipped with tropical fridge/freezer, cooking stove/hob, kettle, coffee maker, toaster, pans, crockery, cutlery etc.
Off the kitchen we have a recently renewed washroom with washing facilities for your use.
The living room is light and airy with windows/french doors on three sides. Keep the breeze flowing though even whilst out by locking the clever wrought iron gates, provided to protect the house and your property.
This room is furnished with a three/two/one cane suite in tropical style, coffee table, flat-screen multi channel TV, video and DVD player and well stocked bookshelves.
Two bright, 'Hunter' lights (with fan) hang from the ceiling and an occasional table in the corner bears a lamp, the telephone and our guest book!
There are three sets of glass 'French' doors leading from the living room; two to the verandah and one to the formal dining room.
The dining room is furnished with a large white-wood table and six upholstered chairs. Its lovely arched windows look out onto the garden on three sides.
The veranda overlooks the main garden and is well furnished with a modern selection of furniture in attractive earth colours. This comprises a two seater couch, two arm chairs, dining table with six padded dining chairs and the famous Mamasan relaxer - much loved by everyone! In all, this amounts to comfortable seating for 11 people! There is also a coffee table, fans and good lighting including an extra standard lamp.
This is a wonderful place to sit in the evening, overlooking the garden with its lovely arch (and fairy lights), relaxing and listening to the happy sound of the tree frogs chirping away!
Decor is up to date and lighting around the property has been carefully considered to promote a soft, relaxing atmosphere when desired whilst also offering enough light to enjoy reading.
A previous guest wrote to us after his holiday, saying that on his first evening, when he sat on the verandah, overlooking the garden, he thought he had died and gone to heaven! He had been looking out at our floral arch, lit with pretty fairy-lights at night.
Tropical vegetation is exotic and we have a range of interesting, useful and beautiful plants all around the house. We have bougainvillea, hibiscus, frangipani, lemon grass, aloe vera, alamander, desert rose, bird of paradise and more. The arch itself is adorned with a dainty climber bearing pretty, feathery leaves and delicate pink bells.
