Description

Situated on the private 3,000 acre Straloch estate on the southern fringe of the Cairngorm National Park near Pitlochry, this charming 19th century estate cottage is the perfect place for a peaceful rural break away from it all. Exceptionally scenic, the loch, which can be seen from the house, is a beautiful focal point as well as providing the opportunity for activities such as kayaking and fishing.

The cottage itself has been sympathetically renovated, combining original features and traditional décor with contemporary elements, resulting in a cosy and exceptionally stylish holiday property.

The open-plan ground floor features a comfortable sitting area with wood-burning stove (logs supplied), a sleek kitchen with stone worktops and dining area. Off the kitchen there's the a warm boot room with pulley for drying wet outdoor gear and a shower room with WC just off.

Upstairs, a stunning reclaimed rolltop bath sits alongside a modern separate shower. There are two equal sized elegant double bedrooms with designer wallpaper and very comfortable Hypnos beds (zip-link so they can be split into singles), feather duvets and crisp cotton bedlinen.

There's a charming garden to the rear of the house with a stream running through it and a little waterfall next to the terrace with outdoor seating - the perfect back drop for a relaxing drink. For children there are swings and a tree house style play frame with slide. The garden is securely fenced to keep children and dogs safe.

The games room (shared with the house next door) has a pool table, table tennis and darts - perfect for evening entertainment or rainy days.

There's masses to do on the estate itself, including a wide range of self-guided walks to suit all abilities, kayaking and fishing on the loch (April to end October), tennis and wildlife watching. It's a great place for children who love cycling along the private estate road to visit the donkeys or collect eggs from the hen run in the Walled Garden.

The 5 acre Millennium Wood with its network of paths, lochans and unusual trees is a great place to explore and also for walking dogs as it's completely fenced (we allow up to two well behaved dogs, subject to our doggy house rules).

And although Straloch feels wonderfully remote (there are nothing but mountains to the north) it is only 20 minutes from the the A9 (Scotland's main north/ south trunk road) and well placed to take off on day trips, whether it's Royal Deeside, Aviemore, Loch Ness or St Andrews. The attractive small town of Pitlochry is just 15 minutes drive where you'll find a small supermarket and plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants as well as the famous Pitlochry dam and fish ladder.
