Description

With great pleasure we accepted the owner's invitation to visit his villa "Son Calet", which lies near to the village of Muro. The preliminary data alone seemed suitable: a rustic villa, completely refurbished in 2015 and thereby wholly modernised, situated on an impressive 120,000 m² plot of land and yet still with good access to shopping facilities and in relative proximity to the beach. These are all parameters that fit perfectly with the villas already offered within our programme. However, as we visited the villa to look at it from the point of view of our customers, the anticipation turned into outright enthusiasm, as the trendy villa "Son Calet" really has been extensively renovated to an unbelievable degree, meaning it gives off a thoroughly fashionable, stylish atmosphere. Those who place a premium on design and quality have definitely come to the right place here.

Even on the smoothly plastered facade, which has been loosened up with fragments of rough stone, you can see the symbiosis between continued tradition in consideration of more contemporary aspects of the building. This symbiosis can also be seen in the interior layout of the villa. An open floor plan was chosen for this villa, so that a flowing transition was created between the living room, dining room and kitchen that together make up the communal living space of the property. The living area is flooded with natural light thanks to the floor-length windows. This area is a very pleasant place to be in as a result of the exposed wood beam ceilings, the white walls and the grey-hued, large-scale floor tiles. This area is furnished in a truly harmonious, top-quality design: From the generous white sofa in front of the rotating LCD TV, the long glass table with the swinger chairs and the chic chromed seats, all the way through to the kitchen, you will only find absolute quality. The premium high-gloss fitted kitchen contains a kitchen island which visually separates the kitchen from the dining area. It goes without saying that the available facilities and furnishings that make your everyday life easier are technically high-end. You can also see a little piece of tradition here looking at a section of old, exposed stone wall, which looks as though it is in a picture frame. Also striking are the deliberately positioned furnishings and the large-scale pictures on the walls. A dresser in the entrance hall, for example, not only provides storage, but its design makes it a work of art in itself. In meticulously planned and professionally implemented details, we also encounter yet more overlaps between design and artistry in the remaining rooms as well (even in the bedrooms). Awaiting us in both bathrooms, for example, is tiling work of the highest quality, offbeat bathroom items and superior comfort. There are 2 rooms that each have a double bed, and a double room that is furnished with two single beds. Each room has its own slightly different style – what they have in common are elaborate lamps and lighting fittings, as well a pleasant environment in which to live and sleep. In one of the bedrooms, a piece of undressed stonework has been brought out virtually behind the wall, and is set in a cool pink/violet colour by indirect lighting. Again, a confrontation between modern purist design and Mallorcan tradition – and it works just perfectly.

We're now leaving the exciting house, where there is so much more to discover than we have been able to cover here, and we ask you to accompany us to the garden area. There is an abundance of lawned and terraced areas. Where the actual garden ends, the land belonging to the villa begins. Covering 120,000 m², you are situated in completely secluded surroundings, where total privacy is guaranteed. Hundreds of orange trees are among the many other types of vegetation on the estate, which is hard to survey completely with the naked eye. From the house itself you can get to the sun terrace, into which the fantastic infinity pool, with a size of 60 m², is embedded. Illuminated at your discretion in the evenings, after a good swim you can relax on one of the trendy, ergonomically shaped loungers (under one of the 3 parasols if you choose), or maybe enjoy a spot of sunbathing, a siesta or a good book on the Balinese bed. The extension of the terrace leads to an equally large dining area, complete with designer chairs placed around a simple outdoor kitchen, where you will also find a built-in BBQ, which means there is absolutely nothing standing in the way of you enjoying a cosy evening around the BBQ with your whole group and a good glass of Mallorcan wine for company.

But should you decide to venture off the property in order to explore the surrounding area, you will discover a great many attractive places and villages with your hire car, that are all very easy to reach. The stylish villa "Son Calet" is an estimated 5-minute journey from the northern Mallorcan town of Muro. There, you will be able to shop for groceries at the various supermarkets or at the Sunday market, so that your deliberate decision to be self-catered is made as easy as possible. There are also a number of cafes and bars on hand in Muro to supply you with snacks and coffee. We cannot recommend enough that you explore the surrounding resorts, such as the former fishing village of Can Picafort, which still retains its authentic character and yet is brimming with restaurants, bars, boutiques and nightclubs. We would also particularly recommend visiting the village of Santa Margarita, which is picturesquely surrounded by fields and was the first place the people of the municipality called home. For a day at the beach you only need to travel a few kilometres with your hire car to get to places like the Bay of Alcúdia, the beach of San Baulo or the beach of Can Picafort, which is to name just a few of the many spectacular beaches in the area. The possibilities are diverse and varied, just like the impressive villa "Son Calet" itself, a holiday home for which we at Fincallorca are giving our utmost recommendation.
