Description

Whatever your ages and interests, you will have a fabulous holiday at Gardenia.

Our comfortable, well equipped cottage, with two parking spaces and an EV charging point, is in a distinctive development in a quiet rural location with lovely long-distance views to the countryside beyond Wadebridge. Its south-facing enclosed garden and patio with barbecue has rear access to woodlands and a meadow.
There is no passing traffic but it is easily accessed being only 300 metres from the coast road.

When you arrive the caretaker will have ensured the heating has been on as necessary, and the housekeepers will have put freshly laundered linen and towels on the beds. So you will be comfortable from the start. The children can play in the garden after their journey while you unpack your vehicle which you can park by the front door. You will find the house well-equipped and easy to manage, so you can concentrate on relaxation and enjoyment for the rest of your stay. If you want cosy evenings, the wood-burner is easy to ignite and clean.

You may have ordered an online shop to be delivered or you may choose to take a 5 minute drive to the local shops in Rock, including a high quality butcher, baker, fishmonger, deli and large village store. Alternatively, there are many pubs and restaurants within easy reach, and even take-away pizza and fish and chips.

If you have younger children, they will love the beaches within 10 minutes’ drive at Rock, Daymer Bay and Polzeath, the playground in Trewint Lane, Rock and the children’s activities at Trevathan Farm shop. Older children and adults will be enthusiastic to try surfing at Polzeath, where equipment can be hired and tuition received. They could also try coasteering at Port Gaverne, north of Port Isaac. If you want to go further afield, there are other lovely beaches and children’s activities, including at Newquay Aquarium and Newquay Zoo within an hour’s drive.

On a duller day, a visit to The Eden Project will brighten everyone up, as a large proportion is under cover. Wadebridge, just 4 miles away, has a leisure centre with swimming pools, as does The Point at Polzeath, where you can also play golf and tennis.

For keen golfers, The Point is your nearest course, and you will always have a warm welcome. St Enodoc is a famous links course at Rock, and over the Camel estuary is Trevose.

Walking the Cornish coastal path is a popular pastime, rewarding you with fantastic views, but not for the faint-hearted. If you prefer a round trip, there is a bus route along the coast road to enable you to take a bus out to your starting point and then walk back to the car. will help you to plan excursions.

If you like to sight-see and visit other areas of Cornwall. Gardenia is well connected by road and is only 4 miles from the A39 at Wadebridge which will take you north and south to countless attractive towns and villages, country houses, gardens and historic sites. Links to literary favourites, such as Rosamunde Pilcher (Prideaux Place, Padstow) and Winston Graham (Poldark) along with the TV series of Doc Martin (Port Isaac area) make these visits even more interesting.

Locally, a short and enjoyable trip is to take the Black Tor ferry from Rock to Padstow, where you can enjoy the picturesque harbour, variety of high end leisure clothing shops, and many pubs, cafes and restaurants, including those of Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth.

Foodies will know that Nathan Outlaw has several restaurants locally, including two restaurants at Port Isaac. The restaurants at St Kew Inn and St Tudy Inn are also in the Michelin guide. The Mariners at Rock is now managed by Paul Ainsworth.

Amateur artists will appreciate the light in Cornwall, and you may like to book a workshop session at a local studio, such as the nearby Wendy Parkyn Gallery, or the Wave 7 gallery near Trelights. A visit to the newly extended Tate at St Ives is a great experience.
