The Gennadi Region started out as a small fishing village and a vast stretch of sandy beach hidden away in the depths of southern Rhodes, and has blossomed into an upmarket spot with trendy boutique hotels popping up and plenty of smart modern villas all surrounded by open countryside. A further 10 minute walk down to the beach has a few beach-side eateries , then take your pick of which part of Gennadi beach you fancy - sunloungers and umbrellas on one side or a simple towel on the sand, with a beach this long; sand, shingle and pebbles all merge into each other. Even further south is the unique Prasonissi beach, a spit of sand that has the sea on both sides and is a mecca for extreme sports enthusiasts - the thermal currents making windsurfing and kitesurfing popular.
