#### Location
Accessible via a road bridge, the island of Lefkada is full of beautiful beaches and lends itself to outdoor activity. In the north of the island, you'll find the main town, also called Lefkada – in fact, the bridge to Lefkada takes you directly to it. A bustling town with a pretty marina, it's full of cafe terraces and enjoys spectacular mountain views.

All the amenities you could need are here, and an array of restaurants make it a great place to go out to eat. A few museums, such as the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Angelos Sikelianos – housed in the former home of this Greek poet – provide a flavour of the local culture. Just outside the town, you will find Agia Mavra castle. Dating from the 14th century, this castle was originally built to defend Lefkada from pirates and has had an eventful history ever since.

It is perhaps the beaches which are the island's main draw, as there is no shortage of idyllic coastal locations here. South of Lefkada Town, you'll find the small pebble beach of Lygia which enjoys lovely views back to the mainland. The eastern coast offers more cute pebble beaches at Nikiana, about 10km from Lefkada Town, while Nidri is a lively spot with bars, tavernas and clubs nearby. It also hosts the Ionian Regatta sailing competition each September.

The west coast provides some of the most beautiful beaches of all. The popular Porto Katsiki with its white sands and turquoise waters is well worth a visit, as is Egremni around 2.5km to the north. Other west coast gems include Kathisma, a great water sports beach surrounded by cliffs and wooded hills, and idyllic Milos. Pretty Agios Nikitas and Agios Ioannis – with its ideal kite-surfing conditions – are also good options.

Around 35km long, Lefkada offers a few more notable attractions. The island produces some excellent wine, and the Lefkaditiki Winery offers tours and tastings. Kerasia Waterfall and Karoucha Cave are among the isle's natural wonders, while the Fabbrica Olive Museum teaches you more about Lefkada's history of olive oil making.

There are numerous charming villages dotting Lefkada's coast, and Sivota in the south is one of these. Known for its beautiful floral displays, the colourful village is right by the harbour and offers plenty of places to stop for a drink on the waterside.
