Description

Broad steps take you up to the front door of this modern villa, and you can park your cars on the asphalt area is front of the house. Despite being so close to the town and its harbour, this residential area is pretty quiet. The (non-)colour of choice around here is snow-white, in keeping with the architectural concept of Cala d'Or, which some call "Little Ibiza". Typically tall, narrow windows give the façade a clean look, an effect that's only enhanced by the brilliant blue sky above. The idiosyncratic angular design of the building creates a sort of courtyard in the middle covered by an awning, which (almost) makes it look like "Vistaport by Folks" has a smile on its face. Eating breakfast here is simply bound to put you in a good mood, especially when the air smells of the sea, you can get bread and milk on foot, and you've got a day on fine sandy beaches to look forward to. This is also a good place to sit and keep an eye on the barbecue, where you'll also find a little sink to rinse off the peppers, courgettes, and tomatoes before you put them on the grill with the meat and the fish. Six sun loungers and an umbrella are lined up beside the house; you can always bring them down by the pool, though, which is set a little lower down (along with the outdoor shower) and accessed by a set of steps or from the small lawn area beside it.

As it is on the outside, so it is on the inside – modern, bright, and comfortable, both on the ground floor and upstairs. In the entrance area you'll be greeted with a magnificent, ever-fresh flower arrangement before you head through the double glass doors towards the dining table, which forms a cohesive unit with the open-plan kitchen and the barbecue area outside; the huge refrigerator is king in here, and will ensure that you'll have a steady supply of really "cool" drinks and wine at just the right temperature to enjoy whilst preparing food on or just sitting around the island in the centre of the kitchen. In addition to the narrow windows, there are also large sliding glass doors that let lots of natural light into the house. One floor up, you'll find a pair of living rooms – one indoors, one outdoors (i.e., the balcony); one of them offering a cosy spot to watch TV, the other a set of rattan lounge furniture from which to enjoy a relaxing view of the neighbouring villas, also clad all in white. Cool elegance in muted tones is what you'll find in all three of the bedrooms (one downstairs, two upstairs), one of which features a little balcony of its own and the only double bed in the house, measuring 1.50 x 2.00 m. Essentially, each couple should have their own private shower or bath, even if only one per floor is actually en-suite. The main thing is that you've got somewhere to look in the mirror when you want to and somewhere to wash the sand out of your hair in the evenings. And when you're looking smart, it's time to leave "Vistaport by Folks" and head down to the promenade or Port Petit...

Ibiza-style architecture, fun at the beach, water sports, lots of dining, drinking, and entertainment establishments – Cala d'Or has everything there is to offer for singles and couples, children and adults, beginning with the Yacht Club's swanky marina and on to the super-fine sandy beaches like Cala d'Or, Cala Gran, Cala Petita, Cala Ferrera, Cala Esmeralda, and Cala Serena. During the peak season there's even a little train that runs between them. At the end of May, jazz fans will love it here, you can dine like royalty (like Juan Carlos) at Port Petit restaurant, and the kids will be in paradise at Mallorcalandia, which has trampolines, mini-golf, and go-karts. They should also be excited about visiting the famous Coves del Drac cave system in Porto Cristo. If things get a bit too hectic in Cala d'Or, you can head inland to the tranquil locales of S'Horta and Calonge, explore Mondragó Natural Park, or wander through the twisting streets and alleys of Santanyí, just 15 km away.
