Description

The gentle touch

Reach out and embrace your feminine side a while, with a sojourn in this shapely one bedroom apartment. Situated in a modern block on a garden square on the fringes of Notting Hill, it's filled with velvety-soft furnishings and curving modernist furniture from the last century. This is an apartment to cocoon its occupants and keep their secrets hidden. However, throw open the French windows, and a large terrace blooming with life will reveal the outside world, where the stylish inhabitants of Notting Hill go about their lives less ordinary.

Yes Milady

Your hostess may have left Glasgow for a life in London, but she brought from her home town the art nouveau of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. A self-confessed foodie, she loves the diversity of food on offer so close to her home- breakfasts at Granger, lunches at Nicole Farhi, and dinner at El Pirata de Tapas, all on Westbourne Grove. At weekends however she decamps to Worcestershire and the country house she shares with her fiancé and his two daughters.

Boudoir eyes

There is a pervading sense of calm in the oyster-coloured sitting room, with its textured wallpaper and sheepskin cushions. If you don't have a novel by either Evelyn Waugh or Nancy Mitford directly to hand, the mirrored art-deco furniture and languid velvet sofas alone will transport you back to a time when the Bright Young Things ran round London. While next door, the well-appointed, modern kitchen, with its double window and perspex furniture, cannot fail to put you in a sunny mood.

Lacquered wardrobes and warm creamy walls await in the bedroom, with its chocolate curtains and sumptuous king-sized bed with matching headboard. Downstairs in the building gym you can take a swim in the building pool. Then head upstairs again and in the plumed bathroom preen like a peacock in front of the mirror, or just laze in the bathtub and watch Brideshead Revisited on the plasma TV. And then, when you're ready to make an entrance, sweep through the French windows from the boudoir and emerge onto the terrace for a twilight cocktail with your amour.

Girl's World

Step out of London Home 51 and onto Westbourne Grove, where you’re spoilt by its cafes and award-winning restaurants. Night birds will appreciate the cocktail joints and late-night bars of the area, the nocturnal epicentre of Notting Hill. Antique lovers and fashionistas may enjoy a stroll down Portobello Market, while anyone in search of yet more languid pursuits should head south for a ramble round Hyde Park. For Central London, the tube from Queensway station will whisk you to Oxford Circus in just ten minutes.
