#### Location
The charming town of Soller is a leisurely walk away where you will find characterful cafe-bars, restaurants and all the amenities you should need. Soller sits in the heart of the ‘valley of oranges' which brought the otherwise isolated town great wealth in the nineteenth century as they exported fruit to France. Many locals went over to work and came back with their fortunes, many to build the Modernista architecture that can be discovered today.

In the early twentieth century the narrow-gauge wooden railway train opened to transport fruit to Palma. It is now open to tourists and the 30km journey through orange groves, mountain tunnels and beautiful scenery is the perfect way to visit the magnificent city of Palma on a day trip.
The nearby quiet village of Fornaltux, at the top of the Soller village, is a short drive. Here you will find lovely restaurants with terraces overlooking the orange and olive groves, hear the peaceful sound of goat bells in the distance and enjoy magnificent views towards Puig Major, Mallorca's highest peak. There are well sign-posted hikes from here and it is also a popular base for cyclists.
This area is a walkers paradise and many of the paths through the Serra de Tramuntana start or pass through the area. There are also many gentle walks for those less experienced yet still want to explore the beauty of this area. Bike rental is also possible and a good way to potter between local villages as well as more challenging routes.

The nearest beach is in Port de Soller, a short drive or you can take the old tram from the centre of Soller. With a rich maritime past this area escaped the over development of other parts of the island and it is now a pleasant sea-side resort with good facilities. There are two beaches – Platja d'en Repic beach which is popular with families and the closer Platja des Traves, where you can hire pedal boats. You can also pick up a boat trip to the mountainous coastline of Sa Calobra where it's a short walk to the Torrent de Pareis.

Villages in the area not to be missed include idyllic and artistic Deia near the sea and a little further south is the rural town of Valldemossa in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana.
