This immaculately maintained villa in the hilltops close to the spa town of Montecatini Terme has stunning views across Val di Nievole and Montecatini. You will want to spend many evenings eating al fresco in the garden loggia. Here, the eye travels to a distant horizon, sunsets are wonderful and lights twinkle far below in the darkness. The olive- and tree-clad surroundings to the generous private pool are also punctured by glimpses of the plain below, making it a serene as well as secluded spot. Yet, the medieval walled city of Lucca is a short journey and Florence and Pisa are both within easy striking distance.

Casale di Campioni accommodates parties of up to 10 people, making it a very good choice for extended groups of family or friends who fancy experiencing an albeit too brief Tuscan idyll together. A ground-floor bedroom with an en-suite bathroom gives extra flexibility for anyone in the gathering who may have mobility issues, making this ideal for truly inclusive holidays. Waking in one of the airy, pastel-coloured bedrooms, dotted with pleasing painted furniture, with those views through the window of the countryside beyond, you are certain to feel on top of the world here.

Our Thoughts

Generosity combines with pleasingly simple decor at Casale di Campioni. The large, well-equipped kitchen-diner in the main house, a second kitchen with a fireplace barbecue next to the loggia, and small pergola by the pool with table and chairs, may just make it difficult to decide where to eat (although we think the loggia and pergola will win out most times). The four en-suite bathrooms are a real plus, as is the accessible downstairs suite and poolside bathroom, which is suitable for wheelchair users.
