Your host works in fashion. Something of a thrill seeker, his spare time is spent riding motorbikes and flying planes – and when he’s had his fill of adrenaline, you’ll find him perusing the menu in his local gastropub.

Turn your key in the lock and let your bags fall to the floor - here, at last, is peace. The minimalist sitting room is filled with light, illuminating nude sketches and a stylish black dining table. There’s a masculine feel to the slick white kitchen, and doors open out onto a similarly snowy terrace. The mirrored master bedroom holds a kingsized bed, while the second double bedroom is rather special. Push against a bookcase to find secret stairs running down into the basement. A cosy space in which to enjoy your host’s books, or perhaps a couple of hours on the Wii, this room can be set either as a twin or as a super kingsized double.

When you’re ready to re-enter the fray, step out onto a road that’s quintessentially London. Walk to Kensington High Street for some of the city’s best shopping, and then on to Hyde Park and the museums, or, if clouds are threatening, you can easily spend the day stocking up on British design in Westfield. And if you’re ready to take on the West End, the tube journey from Shepherd’s Bush to Oxford Circus lasts just twelve minutes.
