Description

Wake in comfort to the sound of the sea, explore the misty brooding Romney Marsh, then warm up in the many atmospheric pubs with intriguing histories, resident ghouls, roaring fireplaces, cracking ales and tasty pub grub, walk along our pebbled beach, look out across the shimmering blue sea and you'll feel like you've discovered another world.

Stay at Coastguard's Beach House and discover a landscape full of myth's and legends, surrounded by the haunting loneliness of Romney Mash. A flat, open landscape of wide skies and fields criss-crossed by a lattice of drainage ditches, where yellow waterlilies float in early summer, it offers the opportunity to wander quiet lanes and paths and to visit some of its famous medieval churches and the vast stretch of historic invasion coast.

Built in this secluded spot, to help guard against smuggling and invasion, this beautiful renovated coastguard cottage is the perfect location for a holiday away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

Coastguards Beach House is a renovated Coastguards Cottage at Jury's Gap, so close to the beach that you can see the sea from the upstairs windows and not far from Camber village and a little further on, the pretty Cinque port town of Rye.

Coastguards Beach House is so close to the beach, you can see it from the upstairs windows. Yet you're also not far from Camber Village and, a little further on, the pretty Cinque Port town of Rye.

Here at Coastguards Beach House, views extend in every direction, with marshland designated an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) to one side and the sea to the other.

A painstaking amount of care and attention was paid to renovating this traditional 1875 Coastguards property-turned-cosy-holiday-cottage. Find comforts like a log burner, a comfortable lounge and a modern kitchen. We consider the Coastguards Beach House the perfect place for some well-earned R&R far away from the monotony of everyday life!

Dining & Lounging

Coastguards Beach House has a contemporary and sociable open plan layout downstairs, ideal for enjoying the company of your holiday group. A log burning stove warms the space and sets the scene for relaxing with a good book and a glass of wine.

The newly equipped kitchen is fully stocked, with a breakfast bar and farmhouse dining table for planning the day ahead. For ingredients that are fresh as it gets, take a quick drive to Rye for seafood fresh from the boat and Romney marsh lamb from the local butchers. Talk to Beside the Sea for our recommendations!

Bed & Bath

Upstairs you'll find a beautiful, modern, family bathroom and two bedrooms.

The large, comfortable master bedroom has a double bed with views of the sea, coastal garden and adjoining coastguard cottages.

A family bathroom includes wash hand basin, w.c and a raised shower bath with screen, providing you a coveted choice between a relaxing bubble bath whilst stargazing, or a refreshing shower with a view of waves lapping the shore.

The second bedroom has two 3ft beds and a single fold away bed with un-spoilt views over the marsh. This room also benefits from an en-suite shower room with marsh views.

Outdoors

The cottage has a fully enclosed south-facing and quiet garden, the site of many relaxing holiday evenings after exploring historical sites, walking the marsh, and playing in the waves. The beach is just steps away over the seawall, with a paved boardwalk spanning its length for easy walks and jogs

Throughout 2021 and 2022 the Environment Agency (EA) will be working on improving the existing coastal defences between Jury's Gap and Dungeness and so will be utilising the compound to the right of the cottages (the area with the green containers on the photo) this will mean that the construction vehicles will be using the promenade to access the ranges on the MOD land.
