Description

Looking for a perfect family ski holiday in the French Alps? These two chalets are ideally located in Les Deux Alpes for fun in the snow, whether you like skiing, snowboarding or simply enjoying the mountain views. With their high ceilings and open-plan living, the two chalets of Les Pommieres are in a wonderful setting for your snowy adventure.
On arrival, you will be allocated one of these two luxury self-catering chalets, each sleeping 12 people. The interiors are entirely wooden, reflecting the traditional French alpine style, and offer spacious and comfy living areas to relax in. Soak away the excesses of the slopes in one of the three modern baths and enjoy splendid mountain views from the balconies. The open-plan living area includes a well-equipped kitchen and a wood burner which will keep you all toasty while you tuck into a hearty meal.
These two chalets, at the foot of the slopes, also share the well-being centre. This includes a sauna, whirlpool and hammam – or steam bath – perfect for soothing your limbs after a hard day on the slopes.
The chalets are both self-catering, and Les Deux Alpes is well-stocked with supermarkets and other shops for you to pick up your supplies from. Of course, if you're too tired to cook, or you fancy something different, there is a great selection of restaurants in the resort to choose from, offering a variety of menus. Many of these are family friendly, and you can find pizzas, pasta and burgers, as well as the more traditional French fare.
You'll be wanting to spend a lot of time on these popular slopes, and there are plenty to choose from – in fact, there are around 200km of ski slopes and a network of modern ski lifts to help you get to them. The resort's high altitude means there's a good amount of snow cover throughout the season and the high level of services make it an ideal place for a family ski holiday.
If you would like a break from the slopes, the mountain village of Venosc is just a short cable car ride away from the southern end of the resort. Nestled in the maze of cobbled streets you will find craft shops and restaurants, a nice break from the activity on the slopes and bustle of the resort.

#### Location
The chalets can be found at the foot of the slopes in a quieter location, at the popular ski resort of Les Deux Alpes. The resort itself is on the edge of the Ecrins National Park, in the French Southern Alps. The closest airport at Grenoble, Alpes-Isere, is just a convenient hour-and-40-minutes' drive away. No wonder it's a popular destination for British skiers looking for adventures in the snow.
Snowboarding and skiing are both popular in the resort, which is snowsure throughout most of the season thanks to its high altitude. It has a world-famous ski park which includes boardercross, a half pipe and a carving area; and there is a glacier close by that reaches an altitude of 3,600m. Its extremely well-catered to intermediate skiers, with a high percentage of blue and red pistes but there's also a handful of easy greens and more challenging black runs.
There are plenty of other activities to keep you busy too. The resort has its own swimming pool and bowling alley, as well as offering a range of fun opportunities like tobogganing, paragliding, speed riding and glacier walking. If that all sounds like too much, then a sedate horse-drawn sled ride might suit you. Or a snowscooter or snow shoe tour. If you're feeling brave, you could even have a walk along a suspended aerial footbridge to enjoy the magnificent mountain views.
The resort also has plenty of options for refuelling. If you want to cook back at the chalet, then there are mini supermarkets to stock up on supplies. And it also boasts many restaurants, most of which are family friendly, if you'd rather eat out. These range in cuisines from burgers and pizzas, to the more traditional French meals such as fondues. There is also a great selection of bars and a couple of nightclubs to keep you entertained into the night. Les Deux Alpes also has pharmacies, as well as doctors and physiotherapists, just in case things don't quite go to plan.
For a contrast from the bustle of this popular ski resort, a trip to the local village of Venosc is recommended. Accessible only via a cable car in the winter months, it is a charming introduction to French mountain life, with its labyrinth of cobbled lanes and scattering of craft shops. You can also enjoy a hearty meal here in one of the many restaurants.
