Description

Three bedroom Cottage/Shack with a huge yard for the children to play.

Peterborough is small town on The Great Ocean Road often missed as the highway bypasses the small town. That, however, is the point. Peterborough – easy to miss but downright beautiful and no crowds.

Everything in Peterborough is within walking distance. If you’re walking, the town is 10 minutes away. Two stores. One is a good takeway – pizza, pies, coffee – doubling as a post office. The other is the town’s licensed grocery store/bottleshop. There is also a hotel within the township

The solitude and the beach are great reasons to is it Peterborough. A magnificent rock pool attracts the older kids, the ocean’s waves crashing a stone’s throw away. Snorkelers explore the rocks and reefs, boogie-borders ride the breakers, and people follow secret tracks in the nearby sand dunes in search of a vantage point from which to take in this glorious but small part of the world.

There’s a jetty and boat ramp behind the tourist park, and Curdies Inlet offers up bream and flathead. It meanders beneath a bridge, towards the beach, but we’re told that the ocean rarely meets the inlet itself – this explains the somewhat murky appearance of the river water. But closer to the beach, where the inlet is shallow, the water is clear and popular with families. Toddlers frolic, chasing fingerlings and adventure, safe from the open water of the Southern Ocean.

Peterborough lies on the Great Ocean Road, 235km west of Melbourne, 54km east of Warrnambool.

Peterborough is located a three hour drive from Melbourne along the Princes Highway.
