Description

Thoughtfully and tastefully updated late 1800's cape farmhouse bordering a Christmas tree farm in the quintessential lobster town of Blue Hill, Maine. Original art, form/function and comfort. All the essentials needed to initiate your technology detox, plow through a great book, or write your own debut novel? This is area that "Charlotte's Web" was fashioned after. Generations of creative types and independent thinkers have started here.

The "Back To The Land" movement was birthed in Blue Hill. Even today, young families and retired couples and friends start their homesteading adventures to your benefit! Taste local honey, cheese, beer, wine, meats, and the earth's bounties at the many farmer's markets and roadside, some of which still operate on the "honor system".

The New York Times Travel section recently published a piece entitled, "Blue Hill, a Literary Enclave, Grows in Downeast Maine."

Reconnect with the ones you love at the fire pit. Watch the young family of turkeys wade through young saplings, or collect wild lupine by the roadside after a fruitful day of wild blueberry picking. Have you ever made a fireside cobbler? I have a great recipe for you! Top it off with local vanilla bean ice cream, and I guarantee you'll sleep like rocks that dot the shoreline in Blue Hill Village.

Handmade chocolates at Black Dinah, scenic rides to Stonington for 44 North Coffee and chowder on the pier, while Lobsterman ebb and flow with the their bounties and hosing down their orange rubber pants, just to head out again...

The cottage offers ample parking for a modest boat to launch at Blue Hill dock. Wade at low tide at the beach/park overlooking nearby islands. There's a very nice, clean, playground there.

The Space:
Well appointed, comfortable and exceedingly unique. Bright colors, sunny rooms, clean and refreshed farmhouse cape that is at once quaint and cheery. Three separate sleeping areas with two private rooms and a sleeping loft. A petite flat screen TV/DVD player for late night movies and Flashback Atari showdowns! Eat lunch outside on the picnic table, or have an evening cocktail via outdoor lantern-light. Fire pit to roast weenies or make smores, or just get warm on a chilly evening.

Guest access:
Come and go as you please! Utter privacy, free reign of the place (but no access to basement is allowed), no neighbors.

Guest interaction:
We'll connect via email/text prior to your stay for directions and I'll check in via phone/text to see if you're settled in! I'm available as much or as little as desired via phone! Need some ideas for dinner? Ring or text me! I have staff in place for emergencies and am available by phone at any time. My house manager is nearby to handle any potential issues.

Neighborhood overview:
Neighbors this week include a young family of wild turkeys, deer, bunnies, and the occasional moose. There are no homes or neighbors within a quarter mile. The cottage sits close to a country road.

Tiny apples cover trees surrounding the will be cider and applesauce come October. There is no internet, cable, or phone. This is intentional. If you are looking to work during your stay, please bring your own wifi. But if you are looking to slow down, this is a great place to do just that. You want a good laugh? Forget Youtube. Play a round of Balderdash!

We are close enough to Acadia for day trips, and only four miles from town. Get a lobster roll or fresh fish and chips at The Fishnet, take a course at the Woodenboat School in Brooklin (you can build your own Northeaster Dory with master builder, George Krewson), take the ferry to nearby islands to explore, or inhale a whole lobster at Perry's Lobster Shack in Surry, the town next door. Don't forget the blueberry pie and homemade ice cream!

It's a magical place, suspended in time, with hearty, friendly folks, and great local food and brews. Worried about being too remote? Blue Hill is one of the only towns in Downeast Maine with it's own hospital.

Getting around:
No public transportation (unless you include the ferry system). Lots of parking at the cottage and in Blue Hill harbor. Bring your kayaks, or a smallish watercraft. Blue Hill is a great place to walk! There are galleries, shops, books, a museum, and lots of shore to explore.

Other things to note:
Laundry service at Blue Hill Village available. ***The cottage is one of the oldest homes in Blue Hill and one of the original farmhouses so takes a few minutes to get the shower temp right. Please be patient!

***The property is now available from October-May for long-term bookings at a deeply discounted price. Contact me for details or a quote. The cottage is the perfect (!) basecamp for traveling professionals, particularly creative types who desire a special place to create or decompress!
