Description

Summary:
Swaine House in South Australia, was built in 1900 as part of the original development of Rose Park by the South Australia Company. It was constructed in the classic Adelaide villa style, with freestone facing and wrought-iron lacework detailing on the verandah. The original structure consisted of six main rooms, which are now utilised as four beautifully styled bedrooms, a sitting room, a family bathroom and an outdoor living area with views into the garden.

The Space:
The house was extensively renovated and extended over the course of 2014 and 2015, the family bathroom was remodelled and a walk-in robe and ensuite were added to the master bedroom. The original features of the property were retained, including plaster detailing on the ceilings and the original skirting boards.

An open-plan kitchen, dining, living and outdoor area was constructed to the rear of the original dwelling, with a ceiling height that reflects the proportions of the original structure. The house effectively combines the original character with modern amenities and is heritage-listed in South Australia as an original residence, contributing to the heritage value of the area.

The Neighborhood:
You are a short distance from the Adelaide city centre and also a 5 minute drive to Burnside Village, which is the shopping hub of the Eastern Suburbs. Take a drive up the South Eastern Freeway to visit Mount Lofty where you can see all the beautiful views over Adelaide, or continue on to Hahndorf to experience the historical "German Town" feel. A short walk would also see you experiencing the city fringe parklands and the heritage-listed Old Victoria Park race-track, or the local feel of the Dulwich Bakery and White Picket Cafe.

Getting Around:
Close to public transport with buses in nearby Grant Ave and on Fullarton Road taking you into the City of Adelaide or to Burnside Village for some upmarket shopping. The city tram in King William Street will take you to North Terrace, the Festival Centre, Adelaide Entertainment Centre and onto Glenelg Beach for swimming and Jetty Road for shopping and restaurants.
