Description

Welcome to Travelers Rest, a historic twenty-three acre farm located in scenic King and Queen County, Virginia. As the name suggests, travelers and tobacco rollers would often stop to refresh themselves, as well as their horses, from the stream that flows at the foot of the hill. Even one of our very own founding fathers himself, George Washington, would stop and rest here on his travels to and from his home at Mount Vernon and Williamsburg - now you can do the same!

You'll be staying in our cozy, dormer-windowed, story-and-a-half house, which was first built in 1760 by a wealthy trader turned farmer named Gregory Baylor. After decades of neglect in the late 1800s, the home collapsed. This left the house in a ruinous state with only one-half standing beside a pile of bricks that had once formed the other half. Thankfully, some of the original woodwork survived and still remains in good condition to this day.

The house has since been beautifully renovated without losing any of its historical charm. Both bedrooms are upstairs; the master bedroom has a king sized bed with an attached two door bathroom for guest access, while across the hall is the guest bedroom which has two twin sized beds. Downstairs has a full kitchen, a second bathroom, a laundry and a living room. If necessary, the couch in the living room pulls out into a queen sized bed. # square feet in total. The farmhouse itself comfortably accommodates four guests, but can fit up to six.

The full kitchen includes a refrigerator, stove topped oven, microwave, toaster oven, keurig coffee maker and your basic dish and silverware.

Other indoor amenities include: heating and air, an indoor fire place, Wifi, a booklet containing information about local attractions, some classic board games and a TV and DVD player along with access to Netflix located in the living room.

Other outdoor amenities include: outdoor patio furniture, fire pit, hammocks, small charcoal grill and a fresh water pond for fishing.

So why not stop and take a break from your busy life to watch the birds skirt across the fields or count the geese that drift leisurely atop the water? I promise that after you take a moment to breathe in the fresh air, you'll fall in love with this place, just like we did!
