Description of the environment

The villa is located in the Bisschopsdreef. The Dreef itself is part of the protection as a monument recognized by Heritage Flanders since 11-04-2016.
At the entrance of the Bisschopsdreef (Polderstraat side) that leads to the Rooigem Castle, there are two welcome bars. These are Dutch lime trees that were planted around 1823. On both sides of the welcome lindens there is a fence of natural stone posts connected by chains, one of which is a 1763 fence post.
The avenue was built in 1762 and was the access road to the bishop's former country residence (since 1720). The driveway with triple rows of oak trees fitted in with the formal 18th-century garden of the Rooigem castle. The axis of the lane runs directly from the castle to the Belfry and the tower of the now disappeared bishop church of Sint-Donaas.
From the construction in 1762, the lane was used as a public access road. Between 1835 and 1948, the Dreef of Visart and the Dreef of Pierpont were successively referred to according to the then castle dwellers. From 1948 the lane gets its original name back. Upon construction, the driveway was surrounded by triple rows of trees, which, according to stem drillings, date from around 1760, the outer rows had to give way to the subdivision started from the 1950s.
