Description

Restored 1950 cottage combines Old Cape Cod charm with modern amenities and accessibility features. Ideally located steps from the harbor and ferries, 10 minutes walk to the beach, 18 minutes to downtown. Everything you need (groceries, restaurants, shops, recreation, entertainment) is under 1 mile distance.

Our 1200sf, 3-bedroom home suits 3 generations, from infants to grandparents, plus the family pet! We supply all the conveniences for a comfortable stay: central AC, WiFi, smart TV, high quality cotton sheets and towels, soaps, paper goods, pantry staples, and coffee for your first mornings. Ask about our “grocery concierge” service if you're traveling from afar. We live in Falmouth and respond promptly with help in trip planning, activities and local recommendations.

When you arrive, you'll pull into a paved driveway that fits 3 cars or a boat trailer. Feel the salt air from the harbor 150 yds away. That's where you'll go for your evening walk, to admire the yachts, to catch a Vineyard ferry, or for waterside dining and nightlife (April–Columbus Day). At the end of the driveway, a white picket gate leads to the fully fenced back yard, a secure play area for young kids or a small-to-medium dog.

Walk around to the front door where you'll be greeted with nautical flair. No need for a key; all entry doors have electronic locks that open with the 4-digit code you specify. If you require a zero-step entry ramp, just let us know.

Now step into the living room with original fir floors, pine woodwork and fireplace from 1950. Your group of 6 can comfortably relax together with enough area to set up the toddler train set or a vacation game of Twister. For entertainment, choose from 250 HD cable channels or your own smart TV app. Browse our collection of books and DVD's with Cape Cod, nautical and New England themes, as well as puzzles and games for all ages.

An arched ship's doorway connects to the all-new, modern kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, ceramic radiant cooktop, electric oven, fridge and freezer. It's finished with sand-colored granite counters, oyster shell backsplash, and brass boat cleat cabinet knobs. You'll find all the cookware and utensils needed for a lobster boil or anything else you want to cook or bake, whether indoors or on the gas grill. We stock a few coastal New England cookbooks and essential small appliances including toaster, tea kettle, Keurig and drip coffee makers, blender, rice cooker and small food processor (chopper).

A second arched doorway joins the sunny dining room. There's a sideboard and table seating 6-8, plus high chair and booster for the little ones. If you're here for a celebration, we have tablecloths, napkins, platters and servingware to host 12 guests. The back lawn can accommodate 20-30 for light refreshments outdoors.

The cottage is wheelchair-friendly with smooth flooring throughout, no transitions to bump over, wide 36” doorways and 42” hallway with LED night lighting. Both bathrooms are renovated with sparkling tile and fixtures. One was designed with non-slip tumbled marble, extra space around the high-height toilet, grab bars, and walk-in shower with teak seat and hand-held spray. The smaller bathroom is best suited for kids with standard-height toilet, original cast-iron tub, and a step stool to reach the sink. There's also a washer/dryer with laundry supplies, iron, ironing board, and hair dryer.

The “Keeper’s Quarters” is a cozy Queen bedroom in the traditional style of a seaside cottage and garden. It honors those who've tended Cape & Islands lighthouses since the 18th century, helping mariners navigate tricky currents, shoals and fog on local waters.

In the “Crew’s Nest” bedroom, rustic wood and iron accents feel like below decks on a galleon. The crew sleeps in bunks, of course, beside a map of Cape Cod's shipwrecks. Both beds are full/double size to accommodate pirates up to 5'7” tall.

At the stern of the cottage, the “Captain's Cabin” is our accessible bedroom with 3ft clearances around the lower-height Queen bed. A vaulted ceiling with beam, picture window and matching French door to the quarterdeck (patio) evoke the shipboard lifestyle of Cape Cod's whaling captains. There's room here for the pack'n'play crib. Note our house is rewired with all child-safe outlets.

Finally, step out on the patio. There's an umbrella table for al fresco dining or savoring a vacation cigar (no smoking indoors please). The outdoor shower features whale tail hooks, mahogany bench and floor that blends seamlessly into the patio.

Falmouth Heights Beach, one of Falmouth's finest, is exactly 1/2 mile from our door. Beach wheelchairs are available with ramp access to the sand. Historic homes and Falmouth Yacht Club are nearby.

It's 7 minutes walk to Windfall Market grocery and Harbor Marine Park, the site of Falmouth's farmers market (May–Oct), weekly summer concerts, and many outdoor events such as yoga, annual antiques fair, September's StriperFest fishing derby, and Seafaring Santa's December arrival. Seven minutes in the opposite direction takes you to more dining options, shopping, Starbucks, and the ballpark of our summer college-league Cape Cod Baseball team. Keep walking (18 minutes total) and you're in Falmouth Village center. Known for boutique shops and restaurants, the adjacent library lawn and Peg Noonan Park are the main venues for local events: from the Easter Egg Scramble to holiday parades (July 4th, Halloween, Christmas), ArtsFest, JazzFest, book fair and street fair, summer outdoor movies and lobster suppers, and much more. Behind the children's library are the summertime Carousel of Light and year-round nautical-theme playground.

Picturesque Woods Hole village is 5 miles away by bike or trolley, while Cape Cod's famed Old Silver Beach and Mashpee Commons upscale shopping center are 15 minutes by car. Our seaside New England town is the best of all worlds, and Falmouth Heights Cottage is perfectly situated to enjoy it all!
