Patterns play within the barnwood walls of this contemporary cabin, a chic counterpoint to the panorama that waits outside its picture windows. The Lodge sits on a prime site within Shooting Star, a luxury development within walking distance (or a short shuttle ride) of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

Designed by renowned local architect John Carney, the Lodge reimagines the western barn as a soaring great room framed in timbers. A two-story stone fireplace vies with the vista for focal point. An elk mount presides over the living space from its perch above the mantle, diverting attention away from the covert TV (tucked behind a barnwood panel). A roomy sectional – plush with patterned pillows – faces the fireplace and hugs a live-edge wood coffee table. An octagonal chandelier dangles gracefully above the great room, while animal-print drapes lend an unexpected touch.

Jutting off the living area, the gourmet kitchen features every trapping imaginable from the Wolf stove and stainless steel appliances to granite countertops and a wide island. Barstools – upholstered in cowhide and plaid – create a perch for culinary spectating, and schoolhouse pendants add a modern element.

Within the great room, two different areas serve as venues for the vittles prepared nearby. A sleek square dining table, ringed in upholstered armchairs, welcomes formal affairs while an intimate breakfast nook – accented by a howling (stuffed) coyote – provides a more casual setting for eating, with its two chairs and plaid banquette.

Glass doors open onto the terrace, where woven couches invite lounging around the fire pit. Adding to the warmth, a hot tub encourages soaking, while a gas grill makes outdoor cooking a must. Whatever diversion is selected, the terrace offers prime panoramic scenery.

Return indoors to find a guest suite, linked to the great room, with a king sleigh bed topped by an equine triptych and flanked by a studded wood side table. Architect’s lamps provide reading light, while a floating pendant adds warm illumination. Mirroring the pattern play employed throughout the house, a fur throw folds over the bedspread in contrast to the damask drapes. The ensuite bathroom boasts a double vanity, shower and tub. The back hall offers functionality with a laundry room, powder room and the attached, immaculate two-car garage – sheathed in barn doors and outfitted with a commercial-grade boot and glove dryer. Rounding out the first-floor amenities, the functional foyer presents a place to disrobe amid chic accoutrements including studded fabric wall covering, a spiked metal mirror, striped rug and barnwood credenza.

The second floor beckons with two more bedrooms and a versatile media room. The master bedroom boasts panoramic views of the Gros Ventre Range from the king canopy bed. A modern desk enables work. An upholstered chaise lounge, tucked beside the gas fireplace, creates the perfect reading nook (beneath the mounted flat-screen TV). Exposed beams cap the elegant suite. The master bath includes a bathtub, glass rain shower, double vanity, sheepskin mat and hammered metal mirror.

The second bedroom, designed with children in mind, offers a built-in bunk beds. Patterns dance from the plaid carpet to a cowhide chair and the graphic wallpaper in the ensuite bath. Similarly schemed, the neighboring media room features a graphic carpet, a large flat-screen TV, and a built-in bookcase/media console. Hovering up high, a lofted bunk bed lines an entire wall, accommodating multiple sleeping arrangements.

The many amenities found inside the Lodge are rivaled only by the myriad of diversions that lie just beyond the front door. A bike path borders the property, allowing for car-free travel between top spots including the southern entrance to Grand Teton National Park. Downtown Jackson is a short drive away, as is the hamlet of Wilson. Whether fly fishing or horseback riding, mountain biking or backcountry skiing, the Lodge allows you to
