Description

A villa that looks almost untouched by time, filled with gorgeous original wood features with an alluring Italian country cottage charm, you will not want to leave this place after your first blissful night at Villa Lovere, just off the eastern slopes of Mount Etna.

Originally built as wine-producing Palmento with black lava stone basins, the villa boasts a rich cultural history and a sense of old Italia. There are traditional tiled floors and hand carved wood ceiling beams throughout, touches of the past sprinkled here and there giving this villa an old-school charm like no other.

Though this property oozes old-school Italian country charm, the living, dining and kitchen area is open plan, giving you and your group or family the modern luxury of communal spaces without rigid walls and doorways. This area features stone floors and a handcrafted kitchen with intricate tile patterns and painted ceramic plates on the walls, along with a gorgeous granite farmhouse style sink, plus a deep stone fireplace, perfect for cosying around during the evenings.

There are three double bedrooms, each one featuring wood ceiling beams and lots of natural light. With two beautifully finished shower rooms, afternoons spent pampering and indulging in long showers are on the cards. There’s even a second, smaller kitchen that’s been finished in a cheery bright yellow in a part of the villa that offers privacy away from the rest of the space.

The outside area is perfect for entertaining and hosting others, or just to be enjoyed as a family or small group of friends, with stone steps leading down to a pool that seems as if it’s just been embedded into the hillside, offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding plant life and hilly landscapes. There are two outdoor covered terraces with tables and chairs for alfresco dining, along with a further outdoor dining area in the garden, a children’s outdoor play area, plus deck chairs and sunbeds for unwinding in the sun and being inspired by the surrounding heavenly views.

The garden features a plethora of greenery and foliage, as well as old-style stone walls that allude to the villa’s history. Private parking is available, as is WiFi and air conditioning.

Mount Etna itself is one of Italy’s greatest attractions, being its tallest mountain and one of the oldest volcanoes in Europe that’s still active. Exploring this wondrous beast is a must while you are staying nearby, with excursions, jeep tours and cable cars on offer.

Catania’s Piazza Duomo is also worth a visit for those who want to immerse themselves in the history and ancient architecture of the area, boasting awe-inspiring views inside and out, as well as being near to more than one other architectural gem, such as the Monreale Cathedral, meaning you could make a day of exploring these long-standing beauties before venturing off further into the square or stopping by the local fish market.

The Lungomare di Ognina Beach is the ideal spot for brisk evening walks along the coast, allowing you to take in the sunset, while the nearby fishing village of San Giovanni Li Cuti is great for family days outspent exploring the beach’s huge black rocks and clear waters.

For open green space and an old-school European feel with circular gardens, a day spent exploring the Giardino Bellini National Park won’t disappoint - you’ll feel as if you have your green Italian oasis for the day.
