Description

Villa Duilia is located high in the valley of Grotticelli, between Castellammare del Golfo and Scopello. It is surrounded by untouched Sicilian countryside, which extends towards the bay of Castellammare in the east, and mountains which dominate the horizon to the west. Fields scatter the expansive landscape below, ebbing towards the Tyrrhenian Sea.

The interior of the property is light and summery thanks to the many windows through which the sun pours. This villa boasts an open plan living and dining area with a fully equipped kitchen, with large windows to admire the view of the gorgeous Sicilian countryside. There is a small reasonably priced selection of local wines on offer in the kitchen, a thoughtful touch for weary travellers! Tastefully chosen paintings and ornaments which pertain to the sea faring culture of the region embellish the bedrooms, of which there are two, one with a king size bed and the other with two single beds, each with ample wardrobe space.

Outdoors, the property takes on a new life- a balcony from which to admire the natural beauty of rural Sicily, where rolling hills and rocky crags meet the beach of Guidaloca. An arbour shades the veranda, which is equipped with wooden benches and a table. The rustic dry stone wall which offers seclusion to the private swimming pool and the charming wooden fence which runs the perimeter of the garden give the villa an unmistakeable bucolic charm.

Villa Duilia is in a wonderful location to enjoy the delights of Western Sicily. Many days can be spent lazing on the beach and soaking up the Sicilian rays. The nearest pebbly beach is Spiaggia di Guidaloca, less than 5km away, with stunning blue waters. In fact there are no shortage of gorgeous beaches in this region, a real stand out is San Vito Lo Capo, extremely popular thanks to its stretch of white sandy beach at the foot of Monte Monaco.

Villa Duilia is in a great location for exploring much of Western Sicily. It is conveniently vlose by to Scopello (5km) for when you fancy a meal or an aperitivo as well as Castellamare del Golfo (10km) if you’d like more choice. The nearest beach is also only 3.5km away! Along the coast you can find some of western Sicily’s most glorious beaches. There is much to explore in this region, including the fascinating city of Trapani (34km). Here you can explore the old town centre, much of which has been recently restored. Or you can take a cable car to the historic Erice, a medieval hilltop town with winding lanes, two castles and amazing views of Trapani. If you’re keen to explore more of the island, venture further to the wine town of Marsala (79km). there are many sights to see here such as the Museo Archeologico Baglio Anselmi, the prime archaeological museum of the region with a huge array of artefacts, and the Chiesa del Purgatorio, a 16th century church with a beautiful Baroque façade.  For something a bit different, hop on a ferry at Trapani or Marsala and set sail for the enchanting Aegadian islands. Each of the five islands is full of rocky alcoves and quaint beaches where you can soak up the sun or pretty places to eat. The capital of Sicily is the city of Palermo, and this lively city is 75km away. Palermo is an amazing city and is a melting pot of thousands of years of history and many different cultures. In Palermo you will see a mixture of stunning architecture with Byzantine and Arabic influence, sitting next to Baroque and Gothic buildings, this creates a unique and eclectic city. Palermo is the perfect place to visit if you are a history lover and there are many churches, museums, galleries and palaces to immerse yourself in.
