From the winding driveway that dramatically arrives at Chateau on the Westbank’s front entrance to the floor-to-ceiling windows that greet you as soon as you walk in, this 6,400 square foot home lives up to its name, assuming “cozy” and “chateau” are not mutually exclusive. This newly remodeled home, although grand, includes numerous intimate spaces. The homeowner says, “We were trying to get something with a mountain feel, but not too rustic.” Working with local architect Danny Williams and designer Colleen Walls, he succeeded. The home is elegant, and comfortable.

As well done as the décor is, it isn’t the first thing you notice. That honor goes to the views. Walk in the front door, take a few steps, and you’re in the home’s great room. There are coffered, cathedral ceilings here notable for their height, detailing, and plasterwork, but this room is about the views. Floor-to-ceiling windows on the northwestern wall frame the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, and also capture the stunning Rendezvous Peak. Whatever the season, this view is stunning.

Next to the views, you’ll likely next be enthralled by the professional kitchen. Open to the great room, the kitchen is spacious and well appointed (Nespresso machine included.) Continue through the kitchen and you’ll next hit an informal breakfast room, one of the home’s intimate spaces that invite you to settle in and relax. In warm weather, walk outside from here onto a large stone terrace. Eat on this terrace and you have the same up-close Teton views.

Adjacent to the breakfast nook is an office. Just past the office is a media room with the biggest television you’ve likely ever seen. Because no movie night is complete without a good glass of wine or cocktail, off the media room is a bartender’s pantry complete with a wine fridge, wet bar, and enough counter space to make up your favorite cocktail. (If you need cocktail inspiration, the book Classic Cocktails is there for reference.)

Proving how much attention was paid to this home’s details is the powder room nearest the media room. Its sink is not only onyx, but also lit from below. It glows.

A laundry room between media room and the access to the home’s three-car garage is so well done it might inspire the kids to do their own wash. Maybe. (Also by the door to the garage is an elevator to the second floor.)

The south end of the ground level is devoted to one of the chateau’s two master suites. (In addition to two master suites, this home has two guest suites.) This ground-floor master has a large sitting area—armchairs and a couch—in front of a gas fireplace with a polished marble surround. The star of the master bathroom is the marble steam shower, complete with a built-in bench. There is also a jetted deep-soaking tub.

The Chateau on the Westbank’s three other bedroom suites, including the second master suite, are upstairs. A loft at the top of the stairs is a sitting area where you can quietly read, gaze at the views or engage with the activity in the great room below.

The bedroom nearest the stairs is a junior master suite; its bathroom includes a double vanity, deep-soaking jet tub, and walk-in shower. The junior master suite shares (with the adjacent guest suite) a large wrap-around deck.

The second floor master suite is as spaciously cozy as the main floor master. Here, the sitting area includes a large, custom-upholstered window seat, a great spot to nap or read except for the distraction offered by the views of The Pyramid and Jensen Canyon that the windows frame. A wet bar and access via exterior stairs provide extra privacy.

All four bedroom suites have walk-in closets and flat screen televisions. Three of the bedrooms have king beds, one has a queen bed.

Chateau on the Westbank is located off Teton Village Road, halfway between Wilson and Teton Village. A gourmet market, café, and wine store are about 1 mile away in The Aspens. A nearby paved bike path offers access to Jackson, Wilson & Grand Teton National Park.
