Description

A superb 4-bedroom villa right by the sea, Villa Kukljica is found on the Croatian island of Ugljan, just across the water from Zadar. This modern, beachfront property sits in spacious gardens and features a large outdoor pool with amazing views.

With sun loungers on one side and the beach on the other, the pool is sure to be a focal point of your stay. You have covered terraces for relaxing and dining, a large barbecue, shower and balconies on the upper floors, and all this is within a short walk of nearby restaurants and amenities.

There are panoramic sea views from the interior living area, which includes a large TV with satellite channels and comfortable sofa seating. The very modern kitchen forms part of the same open-plan space, and offers high-quality appliances and a breakfast bar. A master bedroom with en suite is also located on this floor.

On the upper floor, there are three more double bedrooms with en suite and air-conditioning. Tastefully furnished, these spacious rooms also offer lots of storage. Free Wi-Fi and onsite parking is available at Villa Kuklijca.

A green and pleasant island, Ugljan is a good place for those seeking peace and quiet – it has many nice beaches and hidden coves, and isn’t overdeveloped. Taverns and restaurants provide excellent local cuisine, while the island’s landscapes are perfect for hiking and cycling.

It takes around 25 minutes by boat to reach the city of Zadar on the Croatian mainland. This interesting city in North Dalmatia is known for two unique attractions – the Sea Organ and the Sun Salutation – and has a variety of churches and museums to visit. Excursions to National Parks like Krka and the Kornati Islands are also unmissable.

A mountainous island just off the Dalmatian Coast, Ugljan is perfect if you’re seeking beaches and beautiful areas of nature. The island’s main centres, such as Preko, Kuklijca and Ugljan village itself, line the eastern coast, while the western side is devoted to rugged countryside.

Serving a population of around 7,500, the small town of Prego is the island’s administrative centre. The pretty harbour is a highlight, while the hike up to St Michael’s Church will reward you with incredible views back to Zadar. To the south, the attractive fishing port at Kali and the sandy beaches of Kuklijca may also appeal. Zelena Punta and Kostanj are pleasant choices, while Jaz Beach, near Prego, is good for facilities.

Olive groves and vineyards add character to the island, while extends to 24km north to south and just 4km east to west. If you head for the tourism office in Preko, they will be able to provide details of extensive trekking and biking trails. Galleries, museums and a good selection of restaurants, particularly in Ugljan village, provide more options for trips out.

It’s only a 25-minute ferry ride back to Zadar on the Croatian mainland, with the Gaženica port about 3km from the centre of town. A beautiful and historic city, Zadar has several sights worth visiting. The Roman Forum, beside the Archbishop’s Palace and the Church of St Donat, is one such Old Town highlight – it’s one of the stops on walking tours which will teach you more about Zadar’s history.

Artefacts from Roman times can also be viewed at one of Zadar’s more recent additions – The Museum of Ancient Glass. Found in Cosmacendi Palace, the museum enjoys lovely views over Jazine Harbour. Be sure to experience the wonders of the unique Sea Organ, which uses wave power to play its tunes, and the Sun Salutation – a glorious art installation is the place to see the sun set. Both of these intriguing pieces are the creation of Croatian architect, Nikola Bašić.

Elsewhere, Zadar offers green space in the form of Vladimira Nazora Park, which sits between the Old Town and the city’s modern area. The adjacent Five Wells Square is a photogenic landmark situated close to the waterfront. From here, several cultural attractions are a short walk away, including a National Museum, the Croatian National Theatre and the impressive Cathedral of St Anastasia.
