Description

Situated in the green rolling hills of Poitou-Charentes on the edge of the village of Luchapt, Le Rocher is to be found at the end of a lane, providing a very secluded and peaceful spot. This old farmhouse has been lovingly converted into a welcoming and very well-equipped holiday home.

Le Rocher sleeps 8 and is ideal for two families sharing a holiday. However, should you have a smaller party, please do get in touch as we may be able to offer you a discounted rate.

We have holidayed here as a family since our children were 3 and 6, so over the past 10 years we have worked out what is needed when you are on holiday in this beautiful area. It doesn't take long to let go of all the stresses and strains of life at home, to slow down to the pace of life in rural France. We have had lots of friends and family stay with us, and some have holidayed independently too, and they all say how relaxing and re-energising staying here has been. And most importantly, for us anyway, it is time together as a family just to have fun!

On the ground floor, there is a master bedroom that has a king-sized bed and an en-suite shower room, a further double bedroom, a bunk bedroom and a separate bathroom and WC.

In the spacious attic there are 3 single beds. There are few children's toys, some games such as Pictionary, Scrabble, Jenga and Twister and a few jigsaws.

We also have a travel cot, potty and child's booster seat with tray that can be attached to one of the dining chairs.

The main living area for the house is the open plan salon on the ground floor, with a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and comfortable lounge area with a coffee table and wood burning stove, should you visit outwith the summer season! There is a TV (although no aerial) and DVD player (which can also play CDs), and an ipod docking station in the main salon, as well as an additional TV/DVD player in the attic room, but we don't have WiFi.

Outside, there is a large private garden, with an above-ground pool – (6m x 4m) - that has decking on two sides providing space for sun loungers. The large deck that wraps around the back and side of the house has tables and chairs, sun loungers, a barbecue and a large parasol and provides the perfect place to enjoy the uninterrupted views of the countryside. There is a path opposite the front door that leads down to a small river, where the family can picnic and children can paddle and explore the rock pools.

The area around the village of Luchapt is perfect for walking and there are maps at the house showing various routes you can take and several of our guests have enjoyed going for runs on the roads and pathways around Luchapt. The area is equally popular with cyclists and we have two adult bicycles available at the house should they be of interest.

Within the village of Luchapt itself, there is now a communal chicken coop where you can take left over food to feed to the chickens. Set up by the community a couple of years ago as a way of recycling food waste, they are the happiest healthiest looking hens I have ever seen and they love it when you visit with your food waste! ( Details of what the chickens can and cannot eat are at the house! ) And on Wednesday evenings between 5 and 7pm there is a market selling local produce including a local brewery!

The nearest town is L’Isle Jourdain, (15 min drive) with supermarket, outdoor pool with slides, café and excellent boulangerie. It also offers bungee jumping from the viaduct!
