In a marriage of past and present, decorated with a mixture of traditional artisanship and local art, this villa tells two stories simultaneously. One honors Mexico’s rich history of architecture and artisanship. The other speaks of the more recent history of Sayulita through contemporary art.

Watch the morning sunrise over the foothills of the Sierra Madres lighting up your spacious tropical courtyard as it shines in through French doors to your talavera-tiled eat-in kitchen. A large mango tree stands in a garden on the cantera-tiled patio. As you sip your morning coffee you wonder if you should have your breakfast inside, or in the generous poolside courtyard?

Later, as you enjoy a cold drink by the pool, the rock garden flows soothingly beside you. A couple of Mayan doves fly in for a quick dip in the fountain. In the tropical garden, hummingbirds sip nectar from the honeysuckle and the resident baby iguana nibbles at the bougainvillea. Flowering vines crawl up a tall rustic shuttered brick wall that provides a timeless retreat from the road. Statues stand in alcoves. Palms line the patio. The leaves of a fan palm clatter in the large expanse of sky as you watch the magnificent frigate birds soar overhead.

After a day at the beach, you head up to the rooftop palapa to enjoy appetizers and a frozen beverage at the wet bar, as you watch the sun set over the palms. From the crow’s nest, you have a sublime view of the ocean and the pelicans making their journey along the surf. Cozy up with a book in the hammock and enjoy the cool breeze.

When dinner-time arrives, you grill a delicious meal of fresh fish or carne asada on your pool-side industrial grill and share it with friends at your antique-style mesquite dining table, sitting on chairs and benches in the open kitchen.

At night, under a full sky of stars, you are lulled by the waves crashing on the shore.

You retreat to your private bedroom and open the screened French doors to a private garden patio where you hear the soothing sound of another majestic fountain. Or you swing open your French doors and walk out onto your stone cantera-pillared terrace. This, you tell yourself, is where you will have your morning coffee tomorrow.

Kitchen

Enjoy the tasteful Mexican decor of your sunny entertaining kitchen with its Delores Hidalgo talavera tile, pounded copper farm-sink from Santa Clara del Cobre, breakfast bar, hacienda-style mesquite dining table surrounded by long benches and unique mesquite artisan chairs (seats 8), high-end stainless-steel appliances and a walk-in pantry. Windows and two sets of double French doors open out to the pool and courtyard.

Main Floor Living Room

Open the French doors in the living room to the courtyard and you have a fluid outdoor-indoor main floor living space that combines kitchen, dining and relaxing with the outdoors. The living room has a Mexican equipale love seat and chair and two mesquite game chairs. Large-screen television with b main floor and outdoor speaker system. The walls are adorned with Tocuaro masks and stands of ocean driftwood.

Second-Floor Lounge

The traditional tiled stairway leads into a cantina-style lounge area. A hand-carved high-back mesquite bench and equipale chairs around a mesquite coffee table provide a gathering spot for a board game or a chilled drink with friends. Choose a book from the lending library or enjoy a quite game of chess at the table under the large arched window that looks down to the courtyard below. Colorful hand-blown glass chandeliers decorate the walls with a mosaic of shadows at night.

Rooftop Palapa

This third and fourth-story lounge area is ideal for dining, entertaining or relaxing. A large hammock, hammock chair, dining table and chairs (seats 6) and wet-bar with mini fridge make this a favorite spot for guests. From here, a palapa-wood ladder leads to a one-of-a-kind fourth-story crow's nest with two sling chairs with views of the seabirds soaring over the sea, or the sun setting over the palms.

Bedrooms

Each bedroom is furnished with comfortable queen-size beds, full private bathrooms and terraces and are equipped with air conditioning and ceiling fans. Screens on the French doors eliminate the need for mosquito nets.

Pajaro

A fabric-draped palapa wood built-in bed sets a romantic exotic tone in this west-facing bedroom. French doors lead out to a terrace where the sunset over the ocean peaks through the palms. The full bath is decorated with a nature theme. A cantera mission window in the shower looks out onto a favorite tree for migrating birds.

Cielo

This room facing the foothills of the Sierra Madres has a queen-size bed. A wooden ladder leads to a palapa-railed loft with additional single bed. French doors open to a terrace overlooking the pool and courtyard. Enjoy a view of the sky and a large fan palm from the open-air shower in this room.

Frida

The Frida Kahlo-themed main floor bedroom is decorated with festive Mexican colors and patterns. The sound of the fountain just outside the window provides a restful setting. It has a private bathroom with colorful Delores Hidalgo talavera sink and tiled shower. A large window and French door open out to sling chairs sitting in front of a cantera stone lion's head fountain in the private garden patio.

Tortugita

This optional fourth bedroom, only available as an additional space for current guests, is a studio space accessed by an outdoor staircase off of the second floor, is perfect for the creative in your group. Two hammock chairs hang from the high ceiling aside a truly unique driftwood table. A wrought-iron ladder leads to a loft space with queen size bed and driftwood enclosure. Found-object art adorns the walls. Tile in the bathroom is intermixed with sea glass and the shower floor is composed of beach stones. French doors open to a terrace overlooking the courtyard below.
