Description

Frog Cottage is situated on an old Virginia estate with a long history of race horses and fox hunting. Formerly the gardener's cottage, this 100 year old, stand-alone "two-over-two" is nestled by itself between graceful oaks and old black walnut trees. There's a perfect view of the riding arena at the neighboring farm. Take a seat outside to relax and enjoy a cup coffee, or tea if you prefer, and watch the riders training their beautiful horses on the flat and over jumps. In the fall, you might also catch a glimpse of one of the local riding clubs or a lovely horse-drawn carriage, softly clopping down the road, out for a weekend ride. The location is secluded and intimate, far away from the main house, offering the perfectly situated country cottage to relax and just be.

The location is convenient for those staying over for equestrian events. We are a short drive from the Upperville Horse Show Grounds, Great Meadow, Morningside Training Farm, Beverly Equestrian, and others. If you would like to bring horses, Orange Hill Farm is located across the road with wonderful stabling amenities. Let us know if you would like more information. We can also help set up those accommodations for you.

On the first floor of Frog Cottage, you will find a large fully-furnished kitchen with a breakfast table. Across the hall, is the living room with large screen TV and a lovely view of neighboring fields. In back of the living room is the mud room with washer and dryer. Also, there is WiFi if you really want to stay connected, and central heat and air so no matter the time of year, you'll be comfy and cozy. Hygge, y'all!

Adjoining the kitchen is a dining room and office area. During the day you can host your Zoom meetings while you look out the bay window to watch cows lazily graze in the neighboring field. Then in the evenings, you can whip up a delicious meal and host a dinner party with the same bucolic view.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed, the other with two twin beds. There is a full bath with shower shared between the two bedrooms. The old wood floors throughout the house are original, as are the shiplap walls and ceilings. The decor is eclectic, reflecting the owner who is also an artist and collector of curious things.

There is so much to do within a short drive—equestrian events at different times of the year such as Twilight Jumpers at Great Meadow, Virginia Gold Cup, Middleburg Spring and Fall Races; there are several wineries, breweries, and cideries; the Virginia Arboretum for hiking; musical concerts, antique shops, and so much more! The cottage is a 15 minute drive to the quaint village of Middleburg with restaurants and shops such as The Red Fox Inn, the oldest tavern in the country; The Oyster Bar; Knead, a gourmet pizza and wine kitchen; Another Blue Moon Antiques, Baileywick Antiques, The Shaggy Ram Antiques; The Christmas Shop (all year round!); Scruffy's Ice Cream (in season) just to name a few. We are also close to Marshall and The Plains, which also have wonderful restaurants, art galleries, and antique shops. Or you could just relax and the front door wander down a tree-shaded country road and just breathe.
