Description

This enchanting 300 year old stone cottage has been carefully restored to keep its character but provide tasteful, comfortable living accommodation with that home from home feeling. With beamed ceilings and wood or traditional tiled floors, the cottage blends modern comfort with its original features.

The master bedroom, sitting room and kitchen are south facing and look out over the front fields of the property towards the vines. The second bedroom has views over the swimming pool to the fields.

The entire property is set in 2.6 hectares of green fields and woodlands and surrounded by vineyards. Quiet and secluded, being on the edge of a village on its own, the property is a haven for birds and other wildlife.

The swimming pool is a generous 10 x 5m in size, with steps to get down into it. It ranges from 1m to 2.2m deep. It meets all safety standards, with non-slip tiling around the pool and a pool alarm. Sunbeds, cushions, parasols, pool towels are all provided.


The master bedroom is large and airy and contains a king size bed and a cot, plus a wardrobe, chest of drawers, 2 chairs and 2 bedside tables.

The second bedroom is also large and very airy and can contain either 2 or 3 single beds, and has a wardrobe, table, chair and 2 bedside cabinets. This bedroom also has an en-suite bathroom with wc, basin and shower.

The main bathroom has a wc, basin and bath with shower over.

Towels and bedlinen are all included and changed weekly for stays of 2 weeks or more.

The kitchen/dining area has a large round table and six dining chairs, all with comfortable padded seats. There is also a high chair for the smaller diner. Completing the kitchen area is a feature stone open fireplace. The lounge section has a large corner sofa, a leather recliner and footstool, a further reclining chair, large and small coffee tables and lots of cushions and lamps for soft lighting.

The large screen TV has UK satellite TV, and a DVD and video are also provided. A large selection of DVDs are available for viewing and a selection of CDs for musical entertainment. Books and board games can help while away any cooler or wet moments. Wifi internet access is available free of charge.

The property is only 3 km from Sainte Foy la Grande, which is a bustling small town that has a very popular market. The locals as well as visitors come from all around to check out the food stalls, fresh fish, cheese, meats, speciality produce and vegetables, which are all are colourfully displayed. Other stalls contain local handicrafts as well as the usual clothes and entertainment stalls.

The town itself has all the amenities. Two large supermarkets and several smaller ones, a hospital, clinics, doctors, dentists, shops, boutiques, garages, restaurants, bakeries, bars and everything you normally need.

Bordeaux (1hr) and Bergerac (25 mins) are famous wine producing regions and the French are known for their cuisine. The vineyards and medieval village of Sainte Emilion are a 40 minute drive from the gite. However, there is so much more to the area than eating the superb food and drinking the heavenly wine.

Chateaux, bastide towns, prehistoric cave paintings, water sports, boules, go-karting, golf and horseriding to name just a few of the other things you can do and see. The last battle of the 100 years war was fought 30 minutes away from the gite at Castillon la Bataille and it is re-enacted every year which is an amazing spectacle. The river is the focus of much activity and throughout the year there are numerous firework displays that light up the Dordogne in all its glory.

There is also canoeing, fishing, go-karting, golf, horse-riding, jet-skiing within easy reach of the gite.
