Description

In the heart of the beautiful Dordogne, just 1.5km from the river's edge, Maison Alpage is a charming four-bedroom holiday home just a five-minute drive from Domme, one of France's carefully selected Plus Beaux Villages.

Dating back to 1750, this detached home has been carefully restored retaining so many original features such as the magnificent working fireplace in the grand and spacious living room. Four pretty bedrooms with period yet comfortable furnishings and homely touches add to the characterful ambience.

Contemporary bathrooms and an elegant kitchen complement the old-style throughout the stone house, making it the perfect home from home in this captivating part of France.

The charm continues as you step outside where you are greeted with splashes of colour from the walled garden and a wonderful swimming pool open in the summer months. There is plenty of space to sit with your morning coffee, taking in the lovely views that surround you or enjoy leisurely meals by the barbecue with loved ones, feasting on only the finest local Perigordian cuisine.

It's easy to drive down to the river where you can hire canoes or dine in a restaurant near Vitrac or the more active guests could hire bikes in nearby Cenac and cycle home with the morning croissants and groceries. Within 4km is the idyllic village of Domme, classified as one of France's most beautiful villages, which is set high up above the Dordogne river with a fascinating cave system as well as incredible views.

Follow the river west towards archetypal riverside spots such as La Roque Gageac, Chateau de Beynac or Castelnaud-la-Chapelle or head north to the unmissable town of Sarlat (10km) with its maze of medieval narrow streets, lovely squares and amazing restaurants full of gastronomic delights.
