Two Elk Lodge offers easy access to the amenities of Jackson, Wilson, and Teton Village, while affording total privacy. Get stocked up on groceries and then don’t be surprised if you go a couple of days without leaving this home. After all, elk, moose, coyotes, and even black bears come to you here. (North Gros Ventre Butte, on which Two Elk Lodge sits, is among the most wildlife-rich residential areas in Jackson Hole.)

Sitting in the middle of the valley, North Gros Ventre Butte also has some of the best views in Jackson Hole; Two Elk Lodge was designed to make the most of them. Upon entering the home, you can see straight through to the Tetons. Look down and you’ll see black specks—cattle—grazing in a spring-fed field on a ranch on the valley floor. Continuing through the foyer and into the home’s main public space—an open kitchen/dining/living room—you’ll first notice the views and also the abundance of natural light. (Two Elk Lodge is a rarity: a log home filled with light.) You’ll next notice the wood-burning rock fireplace, then the massive log beams spanning the cathedral ceilings, then the elk antler chandelier over the main dining table, and, finally, French doors opening to three separate decks.

Carefully sited on its 4.45-acre lot, Two Elk Lodge was built into the hillside. While you enter the home at ground level, by the time you walk through the main public area, the ground has fallen away. You’re on the upper floor. Two of this floor’s three public decks feel more like aeries than balconies. It’s just you, the Tetons, and, way below, the valley floor. The deck off the northeast side of the kitchen connects via steps to a ground-level stone terrace that is the property’s best spot from which to watch the sun set.

Between the kitchen/dining/living room and the master suite on the south end of the house is a cozy den. Use it as an office, a media room, or a spare bedroom (there’s a desk, TV, and a queen-size sleeper sofa in it).

In the master suite, the bathroom has been recently updated (as have the home’s three other bathrooms). In winter, a sitting area, and traditional hand-peeled log king-size bedframe keep the master cozy. In summer, you’ll likely keep the French doors to this room’s private deck open all day.

While tucked into the side of the butte, Two Elk Lodge’s lower level is actually above ground and the three downstairs bedrooms and informal living room all receive plenty of natural light.

One of the lower level guest rooms has a private ensuite bathroom. The two other bedrooms—one with two twin-size beds and the other with a queen-size bed—share a spacious Jack-and-Jill bathroom.

North Gros Ventre Butte is centrally located off Highway 22 in Jackson Hole. The shops and restaurants of downtown Jackson and the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort are equidistant—both are an easy 15-20 minute drive. The large lot ensures you will enjoy privacy. Once at your home here, the outside world falls away. North Gros Ventre Butte offers some of the valley’s best views, both on a micro and macro scale. The butte itself is dotted with stands of aspen. (Fall at this home is particularly spectacular.) At the base of the butte is the 1,800-acre Walton Ranch, a working cattle ranch protected by a conservation easement. In the distance you can see the Tetons, the Gros Ventre Mountains, and the Snake River Range. On a clear day, the view stretches for miles and miles.
